Aftermarket February 2024

FEBRUARY 2024 AFTERMARKET 27 www.aftermarketonline.net For much of its 170-year history, Motul has led the way in innovative lubricant thinking. It introduced the automotive world to arguably the three biggest advances in lubricants in the last 75 years - Multigrade Oil, Semi-Synthetic and then Fully Synthetic Motor Oils. Now Motul has embraced our growing global awareness of the need to act sustainably in our industry and had therefore launched NGEN, the next step forward in Automotive Lubricants. NGEN Simply put, NGEN offers hitherto unreached levels of sustainability for an automotive lubricant while, at the same time, ensuring that these is no drop-off in performance. In fact, NGEN oils actually offer enhanced aspects of performance over their traditional counterparts. At the heart of NGEN is Regenerated Oil. This is waste oil that has been recycled, but not through the conventional methods. Recycled Oil is a term people have become familiar with for a number of years now, but the image is one of a low-quality final product, with performance to match. Motul has turned this on its head with NGEN. With Regeneration, the waste oil is subjected to more than 10 different processes – several different stages of distillation and various different filtration processes – in order to produce new base oils of outstanding quality. NGEN products each incorporate various levels of regenerated oil. NGEN 7 - which basically mirrors Motul’s 7100 range - contains 50% regenerated product in its formulation, while NGEN 5, which equates to Motul’s 5100 series, consists of 75% regenerated product. Motul is also extending the NGEN concept to produce a lubricant for Hybrid vehicles with 25% bio-sourced oil, from renewable resources. Greater fuel economy, easier start-up and greater durability for both engine and lubricant are all examples of how NGEN oil is actually enhanced over its predecessors. This production of regnerated base oils from renewable raw materials also consumes less energy than the production of virgin base oils, resulting in a 25% improvement in CO2 balance through using the process. NGEN oils are themselves, 100% recyclable to help allow the regeneration cycle to continue. Motul NGEN packaging also follows the same type of model, employing 50% recycled plastic and the NGEN product containers are100% recyclable. Unsurprisingly, the NGEN product range will expand to cover more and more of the vehicle parc. BioRefill Just launching onto the market is Motul’s BioRefill system. With BioRefill, the spray canisters are a one-off TECHNICAL Motul looks towards a sustainable future in automotive lubricants purchase. The metal BioRefill sprays for workshops are refillable with bulkbought substances and are repressurisable so that they can be used over and over again. Taking three of the most popular workshop sprays - A cleaner, a universally-applicable multifunctional spray for lubricating, protecting and cleaning, and a surface cleaner and degreaser - as its starting point, Bio Refill should offer workshops, a more sustainable and cost-effective solution to disposable spray cans. “Motul’s history is one of innovation, and both seizing and creating new opportunities,” explains Motul UK Sales and Marketing Manager, Andy Wait, “and there is a lot more to come.” Watch this space. www.motul.com NEXT GENERATION THINKING
