Aftermarket February 2024

According to Siti Abdullah, UK & Ireland Key Account Manager at Brembo, the release of the company’s latest XTRA brake pads, which offer low metal content and ceramic non-asbestos organic (NAO) formulations, marks the start of a new strategy: “XTRA and XTRA Ceramic bridge the gap between Brembo’s aftermarket and performance lines and demonstrating Brembo’s ability to provide tailored solutions for those seeking the best friction material in an aftermarket pad, together with a lower impact on the environment.” More change is on the horizon thanks to Euro 7, which is set to affect braking systems, as Siti observed: “With the new Euro 7 emissions standard, the emission of brake abrasion is to be regulated for the first time. However, the Euro 7 regulation only affects newly registered vehicles, most of which are already on the road to electrification. Designed specifically for the aftermarket, the Brembo Beyond EV kit and the Brembo Greenance kit were developed before the announcement of the Euro 7 standard. “The development of the Beyond EV Kit aimed to provide a solution to the market tailored to battery electric vehicles, avoiding the corrosion of discs, pads and calipers due to the reduced use of the braking system. The Greenance Kit, on the other hand, was developed with the intention of minimising emissions.” She went on to say: “Brembo is currently evaluating whether the product meets the Euro 7 standard, even though the implementing regulation for the aftermarket 42 AFTERMARKET FEBRUARY 2024 BRAKES www.aftermarketonline.net has not yet been determined. The Enesys spring also contributes significantly to limiting emission by reducing residual braking torque and thus wear on brake discs and pads.” On practical support offered to garages, Siti added: “Brembo is proud to offer a multi-level approach when supporting its customers. In situations where technical support is required, the team is even able to be present on site. Brembo takes this opportunity to work together with the garage to diagnose the issue together while, at the same time, sharing its expertise. This ultimately turns the session into training for the garage. However, these individual sessions can be put to even better use when provided to our customer base on a much wider scale.” With this in mind, a new section on the Bremboparts website is offering step-by-step fitting guides. Over 300 were released in 2023, including 20 first-to-market additions for vehicles such as the BMW Mseries and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Delphi Global Product Line Manager Carl Lester observed: “We’re continually expanding the range to help workshops service even the latest vehicle models.” This included a range of battery electric vehicle (BEV) brake pads. Carl continued: “Delphi BEV brake pads are covered with BRAKE INTO 2024 Evolving vehicles and a shifting legislative landscape mean it is all change for brakes in 2024 Above: Brembo brake pads range
