Called factorygate.uk, the site allows engineers, managers and others to post their requirements and receive quotes from pre-qualified suppliers and service providers. The process is designed to be competitive, ensuring that they are offered the best price. The site does not need a sign-up or password. It will specialise in sourcing hard-to-find or obsolete parts, and to find services needed to keep factories going. It has been set up by Maurice Cowhig, based on his experience working as an engineer in industry. The site is building a database of suppliers and service providers and invites others to contact it. www.factorygate.uk Video explores the shift to electric linear actuators Thomson Industries has released a video that highlights the growing trend towards electric actuators and the advantages they offer over traditional technologies such as hydraulics, pneumatics and manual actuation. Called Clean and Simple: The Electrification of Applications with Linear Actuators, the video explores the shift towards electric actuators, highlighting their higher loadhandling capabilities, as well as advanced controls and diagnostics and ability to communicate with other machines in a network. https://drivesncontrols.news/eh05u1j9 Web site helps engineering employers to close skills gaps The engineering and manufacturing sector charity Enginuity has launched a Web site that provides employers with advice and tools to help close skills gaps. Enginuity.org offers three tools: Role Explorer, which provides breakdowns of the activities, knowledge and skills needed for almost any job in engineering and manufacturing; Skills Comparator, which matches engineering and manufacturing skills across job roles for smarter recruitment, upskilling and reskilling; and Enspire City, which helps engineering and manufacturing employers looking for interactive resources and games to make their STEM outreach more engaging. https://enginuity.org Manual acts as a primer to machine safety Eaton has produced a safety manual for machinebuilders and systems integrators, as well as for trainers, students and others interested in machine and system safety. The Eaton Safety Manual provides an entry-level introduction to the extensive literature on safety technology. It contains an overview of the most important directives, standards and regulations that have to be taken into consideration in the framework of functional safety. The manual’s safety-related contents have been checked by TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH. The publication contains examples of how functional safety can be implemented using electrical, electronic and programmable components and systems in safety applications. https://drivesncontrols.news/zg46myns Free service will help industry to source parts and services Harness the power and drive your next appointment to your door Drives&Controls Contact Damien Oxlee on 01732 370342 damien.oxlee@dfamedia.co.uk or 0ETER 3AYER on 01732 370341 PETER SAYER@dfamedia.co.uk Source from over 20,000 contacts and thousands more online Free web advert with every print appointment advert Web-only options also available Find your next professional with Drives & Controls in print and online APPOINTMENTS To advertise contact Damien Oxlee t: +44 (0) 1732 370342 e: damien.oxlee@dfamedia.co.uk Join our expanding global team as European Business Development Manager.
