C.K TOOLS, has announced it has launched the shortest fluted wood bits on the market. Fast4Access drill bits, just 80mm in length, will allow users to drill through wood to create clean and fast holes in limited space. The company says 50% shorter than the existing Fast4 range, and 30% shorter than similar products on the market, Fast4Access is ideal when space is too tight to drill a hole head on, or accuracy is essential. Designed for tight corners, smaller joists, and jobs where a smooth run is critical – for example installing pipe through multiple joists – Fast4Access promises fast, tidy results when drilling into wood. The high-performance drill bits boast a threaded screw tip for faster drilling speed, and four cutting faces, giving clean, accurate holes at speed. w| www.ck-tools.com Precision bearing specialist CARTER MANUFACTURING says it is delighted to be building on its tier 1 supplier status in designing and manufacturing specialist aerospace bearing and tooling products for global aviation applications. A good example of this is a recent agreement with aviation giant Boeing where Carter Americas is supplying all-access proof load test torque testing tools, in addition to discussing options for also supplying swivel torque tools.Designed and manufactured by Carters’ UNASIS division these specialist bearing tools offer solutions that were not previously available, helping to increase safety and the longevity of the bearings in service. Furthermore, Carter says it is proud to have partnered with Boeing in designing and manufacturing a custom turnkey portable proof load test solution to work across a range of over 30 of their most popular bearings. w| www.carterbearings.co.uk RUBIX, a market leading pan-European distributor of industrial products and services, has released a new ‘Quick wins to cut energy waste’ report, which addresses inefficiency issues in motor-driven systems. Industrial motor-driven systems – including compressors, pumps and fans – represent more than two-thirds of electricity consumption in industry, yet they are typically only around 36% efficient. Rubix’ ‘Quick wins to cut energy waste’ report sets out the opportunities for efficiency improvement across the system. These include retrofitting variable speed drives to existing motors to ensure they only use as much energy as they need for the job they are doing. Using the correct motor size for the application, switching to energy efficient models and correctly regulating their speed will also increase efficiency. SICK says the DAX linear encoders precisely determine the absolute position of pistons in hydraulic cylinders, as well as reliably monitoring linear motion in many common industrial machines. The SICK DAX linear encoders have been designed with a flexible product concept to make specification quick and easy for both new and existing users, using an online configuration tool with options for additional customisation. They therefore offer a timesaving way for cylinder manufacturers, OEMS and end-users to access a reliable source of supply. The DAX encoder family has industry-appropriate measuring ranges for countless applications as diverse as packaging machines, wind, hydro and solar plants, wood processing machinery, or medical technology. w| www.sick.co.uk ‘Quick wins to cut energy waste’ report 16 | Plant & Works Engineering www.pwemag.co.uk June/July 2023 Maintenance Matters Non-contact linear encoders ION Science has announced the launch of the new Panther gas leak detector, featuring a host of new features and twice the sensitivity of its predecessor, the GasCheck G. The first ever ‘GasCheck’ was launched in 1990, offering industrial users the ability to detect leaks of gases such as hydrogen and helium. Later, more advanced versions were developed with new features such as over-range protection and audible alarms. Today, the new Panther PRO is said to represent a quantum leap in technology, with a highly sensitive thermal conductivity sensor that is able to rapidly detect a variety of gases – the most popular applications are helium, hydrogen, ammonia and refrigerants. The Panther PRO allows users to zero the instrument in ambient air, providing visual, audible and vibration alarms when leaks are detected. w| www.ionscience.com New gas leak detector Drill bits get users out of tight spots AIRBENCH has announced the release of its new downflow booth model, the VertEx DFB. DFB is designed for use in highend manufacturing environments, including food and pharmaceutical manufacturing; but can also be applied in wider industry settings. Downflow booths function by providing a flow of clean, filtered air downwards from the roof of the enclosure, over the operator. This ensures the operator remains in a clean air zone at all times. Air is drawn in at the base of the unit, through primary and secondary filters, before being recirculated back through the final stage H13 HEPAs to the operator. A percentage of air is exhausted back to the workspace, ensuring the booth remains in negative pressure at all times. t| 01206 791191 e| sales@airbench.com w| www.airbench.com/products/ vertex-cross-draught-systems/vertex-dfb/ New downflow booth Specialist bearing testing tools
