T he need to adapt to ExxonMobil’s Mobil Boxx, the innovative packaging solution for lubricants, has been available in the UK and Germany since early 2017 and is already a feature in the Porsche- Workshop AP-Car-Design in Göttingen. We talked with owner Thomas Nater about his experiences, as well as getting the inside line on Mobil Boxx from members of the ExxonMobil team: Marketing specialist Alex Rennpferd; Thomas Brabandt from Esso Germany; Sales representative Marcus Siebe; and Margo Schröder from distributor Hempelmann-Wittemöller in Göttingen. Question: Mr. Rennpferd, can you briefly explain to us about the new Mobil Boxx? Alex Rennpferd: Mobil Boxx is a completely new packaging solution for lubricants which allows them to be stored on a display stand. It is a 20 litre container, consisting of a plastic bag in a carton. The lubricants can be dispensed via an outlet tap on the bag. Question: What are the advantages for the user? Marcus Siebe: Mobil Boxx goes beyond just helping customers to increase sales of engine oil. It makes their working day easier. The style of packaging makes the product easier to handle in a workshop than a 60 litre barrel, as the oil can be refilled more easily and cleanly. Margo Schröder: There are many advantages of using Mobil Boxx for the user. For example, the spout on the box prevents contamination from leftover oil droplets and the new packaging makes the workshop look much tidier. The new packaging also makes it easier to tell different oils apart, as it offers a clearer view of the oil’s residual quantities. This facilitates planning and ordering. Question: Mr. Siebe, can you tell us how customers have reacted to the new packaging solution? Marcus Siebe: In addition to easy handling, our customers have told us that Mobil Boxx is very easy to dispose of. Workshop owners can simply remove the empty oil bag and dispose of it in a bag designed for oil waste. For ExxonMobil customers this is free via the GVÖ. The outer cartons can be left as normal in the waste paper bin. Question: Which customers will be most interested in Mobil Boxx and how many workshops already use it?
