MAY 2019 AFTERMARKET 63 www.aftermarketonline.net Dry double clutch training ends 35-year drought A garage that has been running since 1983 was the recipient of a training course covering LuK dry double clutch systems recently, and according to its owner, this was the first free training they had seen in 35 years. Mark Hudson, who runs Jon- Son Motors alongside his 19- year-old son, Joshua, received a overview of LuK dry double clutch technology from REPXPERT Alistair Mason. The training covered operation, installation, diagnosis, tooling and replacement, using the LuK 2CT repair solution. Then Alistair challenged the pair to take a final IMI accreditation assessment. Mark commented: “This is massive for us! Generally speaking, if we want training then we have to shut down and pay for the training course, so this was a novelty for us. The idea of free training, someone coming out of their way to visit us, is unheard of from my experience! “There was an occasion where we contemplated replacing a double clutch but, after mulling it over, we thought it best to send it to a specialist instead. This has changed things, as we now know that we can take this work on.” Joshua added: “This is just a starting point for us. We specialise in VAG, and with dry double clutches becoming more common on those models, inevitably, we will receive more jobs in the future. We need to evolve with the times for our business to thrive.” The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills Course Spotlight The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills provides training for all aspects of running your garage business.
