S o it finally happened – at the end of June, Top Technician and Top Garage 2020 came to their respective exciting conclusions. Congratulations to the winners, well done to all the finalists, and thank you to everyone who took part. If you want to get involved, it’s not too late though, as the 2020 run of the competitions is almost upon us. To find out about that, this year’s final and the Top Technician and Top Garage Awards Dinner, and the winners, please turn to our bumper spread. You will find that spread across pages 28- 35. It’s been a couple of months since you last had an issue of Aftermarket, and a lot has happened since then. Did you miss us? Speaking to some of our industry contacts recently, they told us they visited a few garages, and one of the things they were asking was what magazines were being read. One owner answered “I only read one magazine, it’s great, but I can’t remember what it’s called.” With a bit of prodding, it turned out to be Aftermarket. Well, we were glad he liked us so much, but were a bit miffed that he’d forgotten our name! One of the advantages of the modern world is that there are so many ways to stay in touch. If you do need to be reminded what the mag is called, perhaps you should be following us online? We have www.aftermarketonline.net , as well as our Twitter and Facebook feeds. If you haven’t followed us on Facebook, please do. While the mag and the website are mainly serious, via Facebook we are able to indulge our more frivolous side. There’s lots of fun stuff on there, with new posts added all the time. Like us and see. Back to the serious stuff for now. On the business side, Adam Bernstein is on page 12, rounding up his look at wills, while Neil Pattemore is looking at the various trends that will be impacting on workshops over the coming months and years. That is on pages 14-15. Andy Savva examining the pros and cons of business expansion on pages 16-17. On the technical front, Hannah Gordon finds herself dealing with an Audi Q5 on page 18, while Gareth Banks is faced with a quad bike on page 20. A sure- fire way to address intermittent faults is John Batten’s focus this month on page 22-23, while Frank Massey is armpit-deep in Euro 5 SCR on page 24-25. Here at Aftermarket, we like to bring as many voices as possible to our automotive choir, to make it sound all the sweeter. With this in mind, this month we have our first article featuring our new contributor, Darren Darling, founder of the DPF Doctor network. Turn to page 26-27 to see what he has to say. Not enough for you? Then check out our features on online tools and management, bearings, electric and hybrid vehicles, lighting and ignition. We also found out about the new over the air ADAS solution from Autoglass, and ventured to Scotland to see our Top Technician 2019 champion, Neil Currie. Enjoy! Alex Wells Editor
