A t the end of this month, on 31 October as far as we know as we went to press, the UK will be leaving the EU. We have followed this story from an aftermarket perspective for years now. We have a piece looking at a potential impact in news, in case you are interested. We have said it before, but the situation is so unprecedented, and has been so dramatic, that as a monthly publication it has been hard to keep up. Leaving is not the end, however, and we will attempt to keep up with the ongoing situation and its impact on garages as we move forward. Assuming we really do leave on Halloween. On a more upbeat note, Top Technician 2020 is about to begin. Turn to page 32 for everything you need to know about this year’s run. All you techs out there had better head to www.aftermarketonline.net and hit the Top Technician tab on the homepage. This is your new route to entering. It’s fun, it’s challenging and you know you want to do it. Good luck! For businesses looking to enter Top Garage 2020, hold your horsepower, that starts next month. More information will follow. And so, onto the rest of the magazine. In Big Issue this month, we are addressing the serious issue of mental health in the workplace, and how businesses should deal with this. That is on pages 8-12. Changing tack, we have Neil Pattemore looking at the challenges surrounding ADAS and how this will affect you. That is on pages 14-15. That’s in the workshop, but how do you get people there in the first place? Andy Savva says the answer is marketing, but everyone is looking at it the wrong way. Turn to pages 16-17 to be enlightened. Going over to technical, Hannah Gordon looks at another typical workshop problem – the car you just can’t fix. That is on page 22. On the other hand, Gareth Banks shows that some garages should not even be trying if they can’t do the job properly. That is on page 24. Batteries are powering Frank Massey’s latest article on page 26, while John Batten takes aim at diagnostics on page 28. If you see smoke billowing from page 30, don’t worry, it’s only Darren Darling looking at another DPF fix. If you want more, how about features on exhaust system and DPF, timing systems, batteries and chargers and wipers? Not enough? Then try a preview for Equip Auto 2019 and a visit to Top Garage 2019 winner (in the 1-5 staff members category), Declan McCormack Vehicle Repairs. You lot are a demanding audience, aren’t you? Well, we like you that way as it keeps us on our toes. Enjoy! Alex Wells Editor
