P lease let me start by saying that it is a privilege to be invited as Guest Editor for this month’s edition of Aftermarket. Aftermarket is one of the most prestigious names in the automotive industry, as is Snap-on, and we have always enjoyed a successful relationship with each other. Anyone working in the industry knows that the quality of information they receive from Aftermarket is second-to-none and we at Snap-on are proud to have contributed to that sharing of knowledge. In 2020, Snap-on marks its centenary year. As a business we have grown from humble beginnings, and the days of ‘five do the work of fifty’ with our first products consisting of five unique handles and ten sockets that snapped interchangeably. Now, we are an industry leader and a leading manufacturer and supplier of automotive hand and power tools, diagnostic platforms, software and garage equipment worldwide. In 2019, we were recognised in the prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and were one of only six companies nationwide to be honoured twice – receiving the awards in the Innovation and International Trade categories, for our exclusive SureTrack repair information resource and our growth in European markets. This was a wonderful reward for many years of hard work, which continues to this day and will continue in to the future as we aim to maintain our position as a pioneer in developing and deploying new and market-leading products to help workshops cope with the latest vehicle technologies. It is a delight for Snap-on to be partnering with Aftermarket and throughout this edition you can read lots more about our current activities and future plans. April is the month in which we mark our 100th anniversary so on pages 38-39 you can find out a lot more about our development, from those early days to where we are now. Looking to today and the future, ADAS is and will continue to be a hot topic for the industry as technology becomes more and more advanced. We want you to be fully prepared when it comes to dealing with modern vehicles, so on pages 44-47 you can read our take on incorporating ADAS recalibrations, why they are so important, and what we are doing to support the country’s technicians. Elsewhere in this edition is the chance for you to win a 100th Anniversary limited edition Chrome Flankard (not available in the UK). Full details can be found on page 51. The automotive industry is constantly changing so Snap-on’s commitment is to continually enhance and improve our products to make sure we remain at the forefront of development. Our firm belief is in helping technicians be the best they can be by maximising their own potential and aligning that with getting the most out of their equipment. At Snap-on, we have a track record of success in doing that over the last century – and we are looking forward to an exciting future. Mark Ost UK General Manager for Diagnostics and Equipment
