62 AFTERMARKET APRIL 2020 TRAINING www.aftermarketonline.net Upcoming training dates and news on courses TRAINING UPDATE Every crisis is an opportunity. In the current Coronavirus situation, many technicians could find themselves self- isolated due to showing symptoms, or just stuck close to home due to government asking people not to travel. Either way, you should try to use the time wisely. Yes, that’s right – time to think about training. You may be asking “how can I do train if I can’t go outside for 14 days or I can’t go anywhere?” Well, that kind of thinking is so last century. That said, if you don’t look at things the right way, there could seem to be a few barriers. As the April issue of Aftermarket went to press, many of the training dates we would have been promoting to you will be regrettably postponed or cancelled. That applies to events and names both big and small. This includes Autoinform Live which was due to be held at the GTG Academy in Wolverhampton from 25-26 April. OESAA chairman, Nigel Morgan, said: “Many trainers have been forced to withdraw from the event due to company-imposed restrictions, and we feel compelled to help limit industry exposure to the Covid-19 pandemic. All those who purchased tickets have already been refunded, and we hope that they will again sign up to attend a rearranged event at the same time next year.” That’s the bad news, but there is plenty of good news, and good training, if you head online. If you are stuck at home with your family, undertaking some CPD online might be a good excuse to get out of everyone’s way for a while. What is on offer? For one thing, Schaeffler UK has added a range of LuK clutch step-by-step replacement guides to its REPXPERT online technical portal. Schaeffler Technical Manager and REPXPERT, Alistair Mason, said: “These articles have evolved in the same way as vehicle technology, products and best practice methods; therefore, it’s more important than ever that technicians have all the tools at their disposal, which is why we’ve made them permanently available.” To access the guides, go to www.repxpert.co.uk for more information. Meanwhile, as we reported late last year, Snap-on’s TRITON-D8 scan tool is supported with a series of free online training videos. Broken down into different subjects and categories, the videos consist of advice and screenshots along with comment and guidance from Snap-on. The modules are also accompanied by Snap-on’s series of Diagnostic Quick Tips For a full list of TRITON-D8 training and quick tips videos visit diagnostics.snapon.co.uk/tritond8 For our Scottish readers, don’t forget that the The IMI has partnered with the Scottish Motor Trade Association (SMTA) on the SMTA Virtual Learning Environment – an online training platform for SMTA members that provides access to a range of modules covering topics such brakes and transmission training as well as the emerging electric vehicles technology.
