JULY/AUGUST 2020 AFTERMARKET 29 www.aftermarketonline.net Usage Where can you use Quiksteel? Pretty much anywhere. This is because Quiksteel bonds to all hard surfaces including metals, stone, wood, glass, and hard plastics. It is easy to use. You simply clean the surface for repair to ensure it is free of grease; cut and mix the required amount of Quiksteel with your fingers and apply. Quiksteel is safe to use and, in the USA, is even approved by NSF for use on drinking water supplies. Just recently, Quiksteel was used to fix a leaking bike fuel tank on a 1999 Suzuki SV650s. The customer was stuck on the Isle of Man. Within an hour of making the repair he was back on the road and leak-free. We’ve had reports of Quiksteel being used to stop shorting in high voltage ignition coils, repair worn wiper splines, seal cracked distributor caps and fix blown fuel rails. Three Tips to get the best out of Quiksteel When working with the putty have a little water to hand. When finishing the job, wet your fingers to stop the putty sticking to them. This also makes for a smoother finish. You can paint and powder coat a Quiksteel repair once it has cured. For fuel tank repairs, if you can’t drain the tank first use a bar of soap to temporarily stop the leak. Then clean the area around the leak and apply the Quiksteel. To tap a new thread, mix the Quiksteel and push it into the old stripped thread. Coat the bolt or screw with WD40 or similar and push it into the Quiksteel. Leave it for a couple of minutes and then give it half a turn to create the new thread. Alternatively, you can drill and tap Quiksteel once cured. Unlike lower spec DIY versions that come in a multitude of types, you only need one type of Quiksteel to cover all eventualities. Quiksteel works with all materials and in conditions so extreme it will even cure underwater. For the professional motor mechanic, it really is the only epoxy putty they will ever need in their workshop. A fan of Quiksteel is John Mickel, multiple UK and World Legends Racing Champion. “We carry Quiksteel wherever we go with the race car. It’s proved invaluable for getting us back on track fast and has made the difference between racing for points or packing up and going home. We’ve fixed cracked heads, loose bolts and even damaged sumps. Every mechanic needs Quiksteel in their toolbox,” said John. As we emerge from the global pandemic, professional motor mechanics will be in greater demand than ever. Quiksteel is a product they can rely on knowing it has been put through its paces for many years to maintain its top ranking in the ‘Trusted by the Trade’ product stakes.
