Component failure and essential diagnostic tips were highlighted by the technical support team in the latest online training session. Darren Spooner, Regional Sales Manager – UK & Ireland at Gates, commented: “The webinar began by defining the nature of modular coolant hoses and their developing role in modern cooling systems. Some of the latest modular hoses appear more complex than those of earlier generations, but installation is often straightforward. “The webinar included specific details about modular cooling system hoses that are beginning to fail for various reasons in a number of different applications. For example, water leaks in modular coolant hoses on a range of vehicles fitted with the same 1.6 Diesel PSA engine, used in the Citroen C3,4 and 5, Peugeot 206, 207 and 307 as well as the Ford C-Max, Fiesta and Fusion to name but a few, were identified as taking place soon after a scheduled timing belt change plus a water pump replacement. The cause was a split in the hose, caused during water pump removal/installation. After identifying this particular cause, Gates introduced a new modular coolant hose solution Darren added: “It was made clear that some modular cooling system hose failures arise from the use of different plastic materials that had become brittle with age.
