46 AFTERMARKET JULY/AUGUST 2020 TRAINING www.aftermarketonline.net Upcoming training dates and news on courses TRAINING UPDATE Despite the unprecedented challenges the UK is facing, MOT testers are still required to complete their annual training. The new MOT annual training year lasts from 1 May 2020 – 31 March 2021, but with the assessment pass mark now raised to 80%, it is more important than ever for testers to complete their training and assessment in plenty of time. The RMI can support testers by ensuring they have access to a method of training designed to suit their needs, including options to carry out training from home. Furloughed employees can also legally undertake training, as long as it does not generate revenue for your business in the duration of their furlough. The following annual training packages are currently available (all prices exclude VAT): Annual Training Workbooks The RMI’s annual training workbooks allow testers to train in their own time. The workbooks contain self-learning material, sample assessment questions, a log and declaration form as evidence that training has been completed, and personal login details to access the online assessment. Workbooks are available for class 4 & 7 and class 1 & 2 vehicles and cost £45. E-Learning . The RMI’s tailor-made e-learning platform lets testers complete their training completely online. The system contains guided self-learning, knowledge tests, and allows users to keep a record of training online. E-learning is available for both class 4 & 7 and class 1 & 2 vehicles and costs £60. Classroom Training . Testers’ training and assessment can both be completed in half a day at RMI Academy of Automotive Skills training sites. An enhanced, full-day option is also available for testers who would like in- depth training beyond the minimum three hours required. Capacity is strictly limited for each class to comply with social distancing rules. Classroom training is available for class 4 & 7 vehicles and costs £95 per tester, while the enhanced option costs £195. On-site Training . Annual training can be delivered at your premises for up to six testers, providing suitable social distancing measures are in place within your business. The online assessment can be taken immediately after the course or at a later date. On-site training for class 4 & 7 vehicles costs £245 for RMI members, or £295 for non-members. The online assessment must be purchased separately at a cost of £34 per tester. To book a package or enquire, please call 0845 305 4230, or visit RMItrainingAcademy .co.uk . Automotive training to continue via new Framework Automotive staff undertaking training, including apprentices, will be able to complete their courses, despite COVID-19, following the release of an Extraordinary Regulatory Framework by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). Mark Armitage, the IMI’s Head of Membership Products & Services commented: “Ofqual’s new Extraordinary Framework provides clear guidance on how colleges and training centres can complete courses so that students who have worked hard can receive their qualifications. While there are clearly some courses requiring hands-on technical testing that will probably need to be delayed to later in the year, we are encouraging the colleges and training centres we support to access our experts and resources to help them tackle as many achievements as possible before the end of July.” The IMI contributed to the consultation for the Framework and is gearing up to support the colleges and training centres running automotive courses where it is the Awarding Body or End Point Assessment Organisation.
