SEPTEMBER 2020 AFTERMARKET 37 www.aftermarketonline.net S JB Autotech is based in Basingstoke and has recently has taken on a larger workshop. As part of the process, owner Jim Lambert bought a John Bean V2280 3D car wheel aligner, an automated MOT test lane and a pair of two-post lifts from Snap-on. Jim said: “We have been going for 15 years. This is our new workshop – we have got another unit just around the corner. The old one is just two small units. This new one has got eight ramps, and we’ve fitted it out completely with Snap-on stuff. “I’ve been in here four months now. I took over from an old MOT station, so I was going to put a connected roller brake tester in anyway. I like to make sure that my business is kitted out with the latest and the best equipment, and I like to stay up to date with everything – four-wheel alignment, ADAS recalibrations etc. I like to think that we offer a main dealer level service but at a cheaper price for our customers. We work on all manufacturers, but we specialise in Audi and VW.” Commenting on the support offered by Snap-on, Southern Sales Manager James Quiller said: “Jim placed his order in February, which was immediately prior to lockdown. He has moved from a small unit to a considerably larger space. and has completed an inside-and-out renovation. The premises look fantastic. “As part of that investment, he bought a complete new MOT bay, with one of the new V2280s alignment units. Jim told us that the V2280 has changed his business. He is doing as many as five alignments a day. Normally you would expect that type of volume from a tyre-fitting business, not in an independent workshop, but Jim has ensured he is providing his customers with the best service possible by offering computerized alignment and of course ensuring his business is making the most of this revenue generating product. “The V2280 is also a great time saver. It might not seem like a lot, but the V2280 saves about three minutes per alignment, just on the set-up side. And when you are getting through the kind of volume that SJB Autotech do, then the time savings add up. It has made Jim more efficient, and he has traded all the way through lockdown and beyond. Snap-on managed to get engineers in there at the time when lockdown was looming to make sure we got everything installed and on time. Then, he was operational and trading as soon as we came out the other side.” Connected tools in the workshop can really make a difference to a growing business CASE STUDY: SJB AUTOTECH
