NOVEMBER 2020 AFTERMARKET 55 www.aftermarketonline.net IMI rolls out employability resources The IMI recently launched a series of online resources to help those in the industry facing unemployment to be in a good position to look for a new job, under the banner of IMI Employability Week, taking place from 12 - 16 October. From refreshing a CV and building an online profile to interview and communication techniques in the virtual world, the dedicated IMI Employability Week web page also included helpful resource packs, how- to guide, tips and advice, short videos, talks and presentations, and more. Commenting on the initiative, IMI CEO Steve Nash said: “There is no doubt that the pandemic has seriously affected the UK’s workforce in many ways. Now, with the furlough scheme coming to an end, there is a lot of employment uncertainty and for those who have been in a particular role for several years there could be considerable fear about getting back into the job market, from writing a CV and submitting impactful job applications to networking and undertaking interviews online.” Steve added: “Some may not even consider a career change or looking beyond the specialism in which they currently work because they don’t realise they have transferable skills and knowledge. However, with the right guidance and support and, in some cases, some additional training, people will find there are genuine employment opportunities, and alternative career pathways within the automotive sector.” For more information or to download content from IMI Employability Week visit https://tide.theimi.org.uk/indust ry-latest/news/get-your-skills- point-imis-employability-week The RMI Skills Course spotlight Despite the unprecedented challenges the UK is facing, MOT testers are still required to complete their annual training. The current MOT annual training year lasts from 1 May 2020–31 March 2021, but with the assessment pass mark now raised to 80%, it is more important than ever for testers to complete their training and assessment in plenty of time. The RMI can support testers by ensuring they have access to a method of training designed to suit their needs, including options to carry out training from home. This issue we are highlighting its On-Site MOT Annual Training option. This package provides face-to-face training for up to six testers at a time, and is held at your garage premises providing suitable social distancing measures are in place within your business. Testers will receive the mandatory three hours of training and will be given a code to complete the annual assessment at their convenience. If a tester fails their first attempt, they can take the assessment a second time at no additional cost. On-site training for class 4 & 7 vehicles costs £245 for RMI members, or £295 for non- members. The online assessment must be purchased separately at a cost of £34 per tester. All prices exclude VAT. To book this package or enquire, please call 0845 305 4230, or visit RMItrainingAcademy .co.uk . With opportunities for technical training limited during the Coronavirus crisis, Snap- on has reiterated its commitment to automotive industry skills development with a range of new online materials via its dedicated online training portal. “Videos are presented by Snap-on’s industry experts in a way that gives viewers clear information on what they can do to help make the most of their investment in equipment for their workshop,” said a spokesman for Snap-on. “Many are also backed up by downloadable guides and scripts, which can be used to help with the self-installation and set-up of products such as the Sun DGA5000 emissions analyser and the KoolKare range of air conditioning recycling machines.” On handheld tool content, Snap-on’s spokesman said: “The content for Snap-on’s handheld scan tools includes individual product training modules, which can be followed in order to help technicians really get to grips with the platforms, along with the Diagnostic Quick Tips series of videos.” On alignment systems, the spokesman observed: “Users of the John Bean wheel alignment systems can also benefit. Along with the training content, the Snap-on website features a gallery of videos about the company’s Sun and Hofmann wheel balancers and tyre changers, demonstrating their capabilities in making technicians’ lives easier.” For further information go to: diagnostics.snapon.co.uk/training .
