It had been due to come to an end on 31 March, having already been extended from an earlier 1 December 2020 cut-off. The Furlough will remain at 80% of usual wages, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month. Meanwhile, the deadline for businesses to access the Bounce Back Loan Scheme, Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme, and the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme was also extended. This moved from 31 January 2021 to 31 March, adding two months. While garages can remain open as before, many hospitality and non- essential retail businesses have been forced to close again. With this in mind, £4.6 billion in grants was being made available, with individual firms eligible to take up to £9,000 each. Commenting on the additional grants, the Chancellor commented: "This will help businesses to get through the months ahead – and crucially it will help sustain jobs, so workers can be ready to return when they are able to reopen." Across the UK, Scotland and Northern Ireland have also entered national lockdowns, while Wales’ pre- existing restrictions continue.
