MONTH 2017 AFTERMARKET 3 www.aftermarketonline.net APRIL 202 AFTERMARKET 5 Philips has been confirmed as the sixth and final main sponsor for Top Technician and Top Garage 2021. Commenting on the decision, Richard Armstrong, Business Development Manager, Automotive, UK and Eire at Lumileds said: “As an OE supplier of lighting for one in every three new cars manufactured in Europe, the Philips brand has always been associated with quality. This message is now set to be further advanced through the new partnership with Top Technician and Top Garage.” Richard continued: “Philips products have been at the leading edge of automotive lighting for well over a century and the Philips brand is renowned for bringing almost all of the significant advances in vehicle lighting technology in the last fifty years, pioneering, high-performance halogen, Xenon and LED lighting systems, to name but a few. Nowadays the Philips brand, whose automotive products are developed, manufactured and brought to market by Lumileds, not only supplies the highest quality lighting for every type of vehicle application – on CVs, vans and motorcycles, as well as cars – but has also, for several years produced one of the most innovative and comprehensive ranges of lighting solutions for technicians and for workshops themselves. “Philips workshop lights cover everything, from the traditional hand-held units, penlights and wands, through under bonnet adjustable light bar units and head worn lamps, through to modular workshop systems and specialist colour matching lamps for body applications. Developing the range is done hand in glove with technicians to ensure that the Philips workshop lighting solutions are not only of the highest quality, but also offer the safest and most comfortable lighting products on the market.” He added: “Becoming a main partner of Top Technician and Top Garage fits perfectly with the Lumileds and Philips ethos that quality is vitally important, and that excellence of product and service not only gets the job done well, but is also likely to provide customers with the best, most cost-effective solution for their needs. Everyone involved is proud to be part of this initiative to promote excellence in the UK market place and keep advancing garage standards.” Top Technician and Top Garage are sponsored by Snap-on, Varta, TechMan, Motul, Philips and LKQ Euro Car Parts, and come to you in association with ABC Awards, ADS, the Garage Equipment Association (GEA), the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) and the Independent Garage Association (IGA). ADAS: IRR now in force Garages working on ADAS- equipped vehicles now need to make sure their procedures adhere to the Insurance Industry Requirements (IIR), published by Thatcham Research in July 2020, and in force since 31 March. Under the IIR, garages must take into account the inspection, realignment and calibration requirements in all situations where ADAS sensors, or parts likely to affect the operation and functionality of ADAS sensors vehicle geometry, are included within the repair, service or maintenance procedure. Head of Hella Gutmann Solutions (HGS) Neil Hilton commented: “It is clear that under the terms of the IIR, the responsibility to ensure that the vehicle’s ADAS equipment is functioning correctly does not lie with the vehicle’s owner or the VM that originally incorporated them, but with the workshop that carries out any work that will in any way affect the ADAS functionality.” To find out more about the impact of the IRR, turn to our ADAS feature on pages 38-41.
