Aftermarket Magazine April 2023

APRIL 2023 AFTERMARKET 45 The right equipment is key as far as Gareth is concerned: “Repairify believes in the power of knowledge and as a business we want to pass our expertise onto our customers to help the industry keep up with the dynamic, everchanging vehicle parc. Selecting the right equipment for the job is sometimes the most important part and this is where we are keen to help. Devices like the asTech All-inOne can be utilised to the best of a technician’s ability locally. However, sometimes this is not enough. This is where our Remote Services come into play once a wall is reached, and our experienced team of specialists can take over the vehicle via an Internet connection and utilise the OE manufacturer's tooling. This enables us to keep up with the very latest vehicles to hit the road, access security gateways, carry out coding/programming tasks, ADAS calibrations and much more. “Our asTech digital ADAS system has been carefully selected as the system of choice by many bodyshops due to its quick setup ability, lack of physical boards and how its update system futureproofs the repairer. This system allows the majority of ADAS calibrations to be carried out locally onsite with no need for any further interventions, which means the shop can continue moving at the fast pace usually required and, most importantly, keep revenue inhouse because there is no need to call in a subcontractor or tell your customer the car needs to go to the dealer.” He added: “The system can also be utilised with our Remote Services to allow maximum coverage and access and, once again, keep the shop moving. Our friendly, trained technicians are always on hand to help when required and can take over to guide technicians through the process required.” Primary requirement Luke Garratt, UK & Nordics Technical Services Manager at Delphi Technologies, a brand of BorgWarner, said: “ADAS systems present growing opportunities for independent garages but the sophisticated nature of the technology makes training and support essential. ADAS features utilise cameras and radar to deliver driver assistance such as adaptive cruise control, advanced lighting, electronic stability control as well as collision and lane departure warning systems. As these vehicles reach independent garages in greater numbers, many repairs will require ADAS recalibration. These jobs include windscreen replacement, steering and suspension rectification work, wheel alignment and even changing a timing belt in some cases.” The primary requirement from garages at the moment is for training. Luke observed: “There are two options available for garages wishing to develop their skills, these being online learning or conventional training. When it comes to remote study, the Delphi Technologies Academy was launched in late 2021 to provide flexible e-learning solutions. The growth of its Academy has been rapid with around 1,200 users gaining flexible access to over 300 courses and modules, all of which have been compiled by Delphi Technologies’ expert in-house trainers. Together with electric vehicle courses, ADAS training is the most indemand subject, showing garages are now seeing more urgent need to be able to service the technologies. “ADAS online training is covered via four courses. These are Advanced Lighting Technologies, with the final module covering ADAS guided lighting end testing. The ‘ADAS Overview’ course introduces the technology before Above: Training is likely to be crucial for garages looking to take on ADAS progressing into understanding radars, SAE J3016 update and ADAS end tests. The two courses above are broken down into nine modules combined, ranging in length from three to 10 minutes each. An end test enables those reaching the required level to download a certificate to show the course ‘pass’ and earns IMI CPD credits too. The remaining courses cover ‘On the Road’ with Tesla ADAS plus guides for recalibrating type 1 visible radar, type 3 hidden radar and forward-facing camera. “Meanwhile, face-to-face training is available at Delphi’s state-of-the-art facility in Warwick. The centre is primarily focused on new technology. The setup includes vehicles, service equipment and test rigs for technicians to work on. The two-day IMI accredited Master Technician level course covers the cameras, radars and sensors now becoming common on vehicles. It’s intended for all business owners and technicians seeking a deeper understanding of the systems. The course aims to deliver skills and knowledge to calibrate ADAS systems safely, ensuring their operation in both normal driving and emergency situations. The course develops understanding of how and why these systems operate, when to calibrate radars and cameras as well as what to provide customers with afterwards.” Luke added: “For garages deciding to make the full investment, Delphi offers a full ADAS calibration solution with the CRC-150 enabling workshop to confidently and reliably calibrate sensors to OEM compliant specifications. This modular CRC-150 ADAS calibration kit works seamlessly with its older DS and latest Bluetech VCI diagnostic equipment too.” For more information, visit: www.delphiautoparts.com/gbr/en/product/advance d-driver-assistance-systems-adas-calibration
