BFPA 2024 Yearbook & Members' Directory 2024

Show preview The British Fluid Power Association is a Strategic Partner of Smart Manufacturing & Engineering Week and there is a BFPA member discount for those members wishing to exhibit. If you wish to take advantage of this discount, please contact Laura Parris on +44 (0)20 8947 9177 or email Lparris@fluidpowersystems-expo.com. The BFPA will be available to meet with members to discuss their education, training and other needs. As well as this, the BFPA will be presenting several sessions in the Fluid Power & Systems educational theatre. One of these sessions, presented by BFPA Standards and Projects Administrator, Nicky Quinn, and Standards Development Manager at BSI Group, Phillippa Younas, explores the role standards play in facilitating international trade and improving product quality, safety and interoperability. Another session looks at the crucial topic of Fluid Injection Injuries. During this session, BFPA Membership and Training Director, Martin Kingsbury, will look at the dangers associated with such an injury, how to avoid them and the treatment if such an incident occurs. People and skills are key themes of the Fluid Power & Systems theatre and there are two keynote presentations that we would recommend to visitors that address this topic. Navigating the People and Skills Landscape in Manufacturing and Engineering The first on Day One (the 5th of June) is from Colin Guttridge, Principal Manufacturing Engineer at Baker Hughes. Guttridge will be presenting on the topic of Navigating the People and Skills Landscape in Manufacturing and Engineering. His presentation will cover skill shortages in advanced areas such as automation, robotics, data analytics, AI, IoT and digital technologies and the imperative of diversity and inclusion. Colin will also address technological advancements, exploring the necessity for continuous upskilling and reskilling of the workforce i. He will also address the aging workforce discussing the implications and the importance of knowledge transfer and succession planning to ensure continuity and innovation. Harmonising People, Skills and Technology The second keynote presentation focused on people and skills, presented as a ‘fireside chat’ on Day 2 by Ioana Hera, Head of Improvement at Rolls Royce, will look at Harmonising People, Skills and Technology: The Path to Manufacturing Innovation and Efficiency. The sessions will address how, in the dynamic landscape of modern manufacturing, the convergence of people, skills, lean improvement methodologies, digital technologies, and efficiency is crucial for sustainable growth and competitiveness. This discussion aims to explore how organisations can effectively bring these elements together to drive innovation, optimise processes and empower their workforce. Big names Smart Manufacturing & Engineering Week attracted some of the biggest, most innovative industrial and tech businesses in the world to its 2023 event (Google and IBM as well as Siemens, ABB and Amazon RME) and the 2024 event is anticipated be no different. Among the biggest names in the fluid power industry Festo UK will be exhibiting as well as SMC, Tom Parker, Abdex Hose and Couplings and many more. ‘Fringe’ events Aside from the exhibitions themselves, there is a multitude of events taking place on the ‘fringe’ of the exhibitions that range from the serious to the fun and light-hearted.
