n TECHNOLOGY 15 www.drivesncontrols.com September 2018 SAE CIUQ KROY W AT DK A W.OLF .WOL F OSURES ENCL WER D PO TRIBUTION IS OL TE CONTR A CLIM THE SWISS CONVEYOR drive specialist Interoll has announced a modular, plug-and- play conveyor platform that offers a choice of 24V or 48V DC operation, and includes motors rated up to 50W for driving heavy loads. At the heart of the DC Platform are the new EC5000 RollerDrives which power the zones of zero-pressure-accumulation conveyors individually. The “future-oriented” 48V version of the new platform needs as few as half of the power supply elements of the 24V system. It also allows the use of smaller cross- section wires and longer wire lengths, while reducing potential sources for errors as a result of voltage drops on the wires, for example. Interroll says this will reduce the investment required, and the risk of errors during commissioning, “significantly”. The new drive system can be supplied with a CANbus interface, allowing users to control the acceleration, speed and deceleration of conveyed goods precisely. Items can positioned on a conveyor to the nearest millimetre – helping to achieve “seamless” coordination with robots or gripper arms. Armin Lindholm, managing director of Interroll’s global Centre of Excellence for Rollers and RollerDrives, says that the new platform“can be used to create a unique range of conveying solutions, from autonomous conveyors that can be commissioned without a PLC using plug- and-play, all the way up to tailor-made, high-performance systems that can be consistently and transparently integrated into the data universe of Industry 4.0 applications for the purpose of monitoring in control stations, for preventive maintenance or for other functions”. The new RollerDrives are available in 20W, 35W and 50W versions, supporting transport tasks from light to heavy goods. The 50W drives are available in 60mm- diameter versions. The new drives are also available in IP66 and Deep Freeze versions for use in washdown or low-temperature applications down to –30°C. Interroll says that the optional CANopen interface will allow conveying systems to offer data transparency “for the first time”. When used with an Interroll control system with multi-protocol capability (Profinet, EtherNet/IP and EtherCat), users will be able to visualise performance information via a PLC or using a Web browser. They can view data such as torque, temperature or error status for every drive. Interroll’s EC310 RollerDrive system will continue to be available. www.interroll.com 48V conveyor drives could halve power supply needs and reduce errors Interroll’s new plug-and-play platform can position items on conveyors to the nearest millimetre  For more Technology News visit www.drivesncontrols.com
