53 www.drivesncontrols.com May 2019 NEW PRODUCTS n ABB has launched its smallest, lightest six-axis robot, which has a 10% smaller footprint and a 20% lighter, slimmer body, compared to earlier generations. The 4kg- payload IRB 1100 robot is aimed at fast, accurate small parts assembly applications, and is said to offer up to 35% faster cycle times to maximise productivity, as well as “best-in-class” repeatable accuracy. The robot is one of the first in a new era of ABB robots based on a flexible design which will help introduce a wider variety of sizes and variants that can be combined in tailored systems. It is available with reaches of 475 or 580mm, and will be certified in future for cleanroom applications. The robot is driven by ABB’s new OmniCore controller and is equipped with advanced motion control capabilities, making it ideal for rapid assembly, pick-and- place and materials-handling applications. It can be deployed in confined spaces and on existing automation lines. As well as improving production space flexibility, the robot also allows more flexible handling in heavy- load operations with complex tools or end-effectors. ABB www.abb.com/robotics SKF Cooper has announced a range of split spherical roller bearings that, it claims, are more robust and reliable than rival products. The 231 series split SRBs, currently available in shaft diameters from 240–450mm, can be replaced without having to dismount drive couplings and gearboxes, cutting downtime and other costs. The bearings are said to offer a superior shaft fit and to have lower noise and vibration levels than similar products. They are available in open (unsealed) or sealed versions. The latter improve reliability by excluding dirt and reducing grease consumption. A precision- manufactured “sawtooth” joint on the outer race improves axial alignment and makes the race thinner SKF says that in mining conveyor applications, the new bearings will typically reduce MTTR (mean time to repair) from 24 hours to eight hours, as well as eliminating maintenance steps such as lifting heavy equipment to replace pulley bearings, thus improving worker safety. The range of sizes will be expanded, opening up other applications, such as industrial fans.
