Oriental Motor has redesigned its BLH series of brushless DC motors (in ratings of 15, 30 and 50W) to offer improvements including: high torque at high speeds, with a maximum instantaneous torque of 1.5 x the rated torque; a wider speed range of 80–3,000 rpm (digital) and 100–3,000 rpm (analogue); quieter operation; five extra protective functions; a torque-limiting function; and the ability to monitor operating status in real time. www.orientalmotor.co.uk igus has developed a hybrid cable for SEW and Siemens motors. The CF280.UL.H cable, designed for use for use in energy chains, allows bend radiuses of 10x diameter in temperatures from–25ºC to +80ºC. It has a black or orange oil-resistant PUR outer jacket, is coolant-resistant and flame-retardant. A braided shield ensures good EMC protection. In tests at 7.5x diameter, the cable lastedmore than 8million cycles. It is available with pre-assembled connectors. www.igus.co.uk/chain ex Mitsubishi Electric is offering the option of hosting its Maps Scada/HMI platform in the cloud, or privately, and using an IoT agent that allows Maps to talk to third-party cloud-hosted environments. A built-in OPC UA, Sigfox wireless andMQTT driver allows secure communications with other devices in the cloud. The client-side UI can be used to configure, display and manipulate values. The platform can be used to view the output of a machine on a smartphone. https://gb3a.mitsubishielectric.com 60 n NEW PRODUCTS July/August 2019 www.drivesncontrols.com Schneider Electric has announced an intelligent filter and airflow management system for control panels and electrical distribution enclosures in new or retrofit applications. The ClimaSys Smart Ventilation System helps to avoid equipment breakdowns, maintain uptime, and improve energy efficiency by alerting maintenance personnel when filters or other parts become blocked and need servicing or replacement. Schneider claims that the system can cut filter- related costs by up to 90%, and can double equipment lifespans in some cases. Clogged filters can cause fans to run inefficiently and consume more energy, while higher temperatures and accumulated dust can lead to equipment failures and even fires. The ClimaSys system monitors the ventilation status of each enclosure. A central controller collects and analyses information from distributed filter and fan sensors. “Smart” filters with built-in dust sensors use a patented infrared technology and advanced algorithms to determine the level of accumulated dirt. Sensors also measure the air temperatures in inlet and outlet grilles. Other sensors measure fan currents and speeds, as well as the temperature of the air “transported” around each fan. This can be used to gauge fan efficiency and whether the internal temperature is exceeding the fan capacity. Multi-colour LEDs on the front of the smart fans and grilles indicate their status, while the central controller displays information and alarms to help keep the ventilation system running efficiently. The controller can also connect to PLCs, VSDs, HMIs or other equipment. A retrofit kit is available to digitise control and electrical panels in existing installations. It can work with extractor or ventilation fans. Up to eight Thermal Hub devices can be used to extend the network capacity up to 256 sensors for multi-enclosure installations. Until now, several components were needed for these functions. The Sirius 3UG546 relay has an operating voltage range from 0– 800V and is available in a 22.5mm- wide version for 2 x 8A or 1 x 16A applications, or a 45mm-wide version for currents up to 63A. In single- or dual-channel mode, the devices monitor direct current, voltage levels and the actual power, and issue a warning if these values exceed defined limits. The relay has separate counters for energy consumption and recovery. Operating hour and switching cycle counters support preventive maintenance. With every detected switch-off of the monitored load, the switching cycle counter increments. The operating hour counter indicates the time period during which there is a measurable current. The relays can be integrated into Siemens’TIA Portal, and parameters can be sent via Profinet. For fast responses to detected faults, the internal relay acts as a signal output and trips as soon as a value exceeds, or falls below, a defined limit. All of the counter and measured values monitored can be provided with warning limits, generating warnings via Profinet if a violation occurs. Siemens 0161 446 5000 https://new.siemens.com/uk/en Aerotech has announced a high- performance single-axis drive with a narrow housing. The XC2 drive has a 10A peak current output, and supports control bandwidths of up to 20kHz with simultaneous control of digital and analogue I/O, parallel data acquisition, process control and encoder interpolation, all in real time. Digitally closed current and servo control loops provide high positioning accuracy and speed stability. An STO (Safe Torque Off) function allows the drive torque to be switched off for maintenance. There is a data array with more than four million 32-bit elements, and dedicated inputs for reference and limit switch signals. Square-wave, sinusoidal and absolute encoders are supported. The controller accepts square-wave encoder signals with up to 40 million pulses per second. Sinusoidal encoder signals can be interpolated with a factor of up to 16,384 (14 bits) for high-resolution position feedback. The drive can be upgraded with an I/O extension board that increases the number of I/Os. This board also has a dedicated, position-locked PSO output. The new drive is compatible with Aerotech’s Automation 3200 motion platform, which uses the HyperWire motion bus with a fibre optic interface, and controls brushless and brushed DCmotors, voice coil or stepper motors with operating voltages of up to 100V DC and peak current capacities of 10A.
