62 n SENSORS & INSTRUMENTATION SHOW PREVIEW September 2019 www.drivesncontrols.com T he Sensors & Instrumentation exhibition will celebrate its tenth anniversary when it returns to the NEC, Birmingham later this month. o mark the milestone, the exhibition (now with Live added to its title) is introducing several new feature areas that will explore the latest technological innovations and provide insights from experts on how to grow businesses and streamline productivity. In the new Enterprise Hub, for example, representatives from key engineering institutions and organisations will give a series of presentations on topics such as funding, training, apprenticeships and standards, as well offering advice on how to make the most of supply chains. Speakers have been lined up from organisations and companies including the Centre for Innovation in Advanced Measurement in Manufacturing, Sensor City, the Defence and Security Accelerator, Gambica, TÜV Sud, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Dan Canty, accreditation and awards manager at The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), will provide an introduction to apprenticeship and technician qualifications. He will also offer advice on where to access information and support, and explain how the IET supports apprentices, providers and employers. Another speaker appearing at the Enterprise Hub is Charlotte Horobin, Make UK’s membership director for the Midlands and the East of England, who will offer a view on the challenges and choices that lie ahead for UK manufacturing. She will report on Make UK’s latest research on how the sector is faring and explore some of the key hurdles the sector faces – such as skills, productivity and exports – and how to turn these into opportunities. Another new arrival at the show is the Engineering Symposium, organised with DJB Instruments, which will present CPD- accredited training driven by sensor innovation and the latest in engineering. It will bring together speakers from some of the UK’s leading technology and engineering companies to present a two-day programme of technical training sessions. Subjects being covered include: the basics of signal processing; analysis and control of noise sources in data; and accelerometer technology. In addition, industry-based presentations will describe how innovative sensor technologies have been applied in some challenging applications. Another new feature, called Innovation in Action, will provide live demonstrations of some of the best products on the market. As well as giving visitors the opportunity to see how the products work in real life, they can have their questions answered by experts. Companies confirmed to speak at Innovation in Action include PCB Piezotronics, Devtank, Kistler, Sika and Bronkhorst. The exhibition’s Innovation Showcase is returning to Sensors & Instrumentation Live. This area allows visitors to get hands-on with cutting-edge products and systems available from exhibitors at the show. Among the exhibitors lined up to take part are Charcroft Electronics, Mantracourt, Bronkhorst, Broadband Technology 2000, Rheintacho and Devtank. The Sensors & Instrumentation Live exhibition will consist of around 50 stands. Exhibitors will include Binder, Kistler Instruments, Low Power Radio Solutions, Sensonics, TR-Electronic, Gambica and Wika Instruments. n Sensory celebration SHOW FACTS Where: Hall 2, NEC, Birmingham When: Tuesday, 25 September, 9.30–17.00 Wednesday, 26 September, 9.30–16.00 Registration: Free via Web site Co-located event: TCT Show (free access) Websites: www.sensorsandinstrumentationlive.co.uk This month’s Sensors & Instrumentation exhibition marks the event’s tenth anniversary.
