n NEW PRODUCTS Fluke has launched a digital multimeter (DMM) for use in extreme conditions. The IP67- protected 87V MAX meter includes an “unique” function for measuring noisy signals on variable-frequency drive and motor terminals. Special shielding blocks any high- frequency, high-energy noise being generated by drives. The meter also measures pulse- width modulated motor drive signals correctly. The instrument measures up to 1kV AC/DC and 10A AC/DC (20A for 30s), with true-rms AC voltage and current readings for accurate measurements on non- linear signals. It also has a 10,000 μ F capacitance range, measures frequencies to 200kHz, and can capture min/max/average recordings, plus 150 μ s peak min-max to capture variations automatically. A built-in thermometer avoids the need for a separate instrument to check for overheating. It also performs resistance, continuity and diode tests. The meter has an operating temperature range of –15°C to +55°C (–40°C for up to 20 minutes) and can be used in humidity levels up to 95%. It offers Cat III 1kV and Cat IV 600V safety ratings and has been designed to withstand a 4m drop. The instrument has a high- resolution, 20,000-count display mode, and a battery life of 800 hours. Fluke UK 0207 942 0700 www.fluke.co.uk Micro-Epsilon has introduced a compact laser triangulation sensor for precision displacement, distance and position measurements. It claims that the optoNCDT 1220 laser triangulation sensor offers an “unbeatable” price-to- performance ratio and sets new standards for displacement and distance measurements, offering high accuracy and an adjustable measuring rate of up to 1kHz. The “favourable” entry-level price is said to make the sensor attractive, particularly for OEM projects with high sensor volumes, where fast integration, ease-of-use and space-saving are required. Micro-Epsilon suggests that some lower-cost rivals lack the necessary performance and functions. An auto target compensation function allows reliable control of the distance signal regardless of the target’s colour or brightness. Ready to use out of the box, the sensor can be integrated easily without having to make further settings. An intuitive Web interface allows easy set-up and configuration. The sensor offers multiple measurement ranges from 10–200mm. Available accessories include power supplies, interface cards, USB converters and controllers for converting and evaluating up to two sensor signals.
