46 May 2020 www.drivesncontrols.com n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA Avnu Alliance , the industry consortium that is driving open, standards-based deterministic networking, has issued aWhite Paper covering wireless TSN (Time Sensitive Networking) and the creation of an Avnu working group to support further work on extending TSN capabilities to wireless. The paper, Wireless TSN –Definitions, Use Cases & Standards Roadmap , has been compiled by the newworking group which aims to raise awareness and generate work to extend TSN capabilities to wireless. The paper examines existing standards, the gaps that must be addressed for widespread wireless TSN adoption, potential use-cases, and an overview of the work needed to enable TSN capabilities across wireless and wired networks in the future. https://avnu.org/wireless-tsn-paper Catalogue covers anti-bacterial and stainless-steel motors Carpanelli has issued a downloadable catalogue covering its anti-bacterial and stainless-steel motors and gearboxes. The IE4 anti-bacterial motors, available in 2-, 4- and 6-pole versions in frame sizes M71–112, are said to be 35% better at dissipating heat than untreated aluminium, and ten times better than stainless steel. Their anti-mould and germicidal properties make themmore suitable than stainless steel for aseptic environments. The MSS stainless-steel motors and gearboxes are aimed at food and other applications requiring washdown protection. They have a smooth finish to minimise build-ups of contamination. The three- phase, non-ventilated motors are available in ratings from 0.12–0.75kW, in frames M71 and M90, with B5 or B14 flanges and shafts. www.carpanelli.co.uk BPMA launches pump engineering forum The British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) has launched an online pump engineering forum intended to build into a repository of pump selection, installation and application information. The aim is to encourage discussion, collaboration and communications, and to help develop an informed cross-industry group of pump users. With engagement from both users and suppliers, the BPMAhopes it will become the“go-to” forum for pump-related problem-solving. Anyone can ask questions on issues that they are experiencing and ask the online community for help. Previously posted questions and answers will be archived. https://forum.bpma.org.uk Combined software helps to design gearbox systems By combining SKF ’s bearing module calculation service with SMT ’s analysis and optimisation capabilities, the two companies are offering a design tool that will help engineers to design transmission systems and predict their performance characteristics rapidly and accurately. The SMT Masta software will also help them to identify potential failure modes and undertake full-system simulations for any gearbox layout. The software includes data for thousands of SKF bearings, with ISO 281 and ISO 16281 results. SKF rating life safety factors and reliability are shown for individual load cases as well as combined for duty cycles and design states. www.skf.com White Paper looks at industrial uses for SPE Belden has produced a White Paper examining the background to Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) and exploring how the technology could be used in industrial applications. SPE, which consists of a single twisted pair of wires, has advantages over proprietary and legacy fieldbus systems that are bulky and resource- intensive, without losing any functions. It has been successful in the automotive environment, because of its low weight and cost, and wide bandwidths. It can transmit different types of data with different priorities. It can be used in hazardous environments. The White Paper looks at standardisation issues and at potential industrial applications. www.belden.com Digital channels intensify the exchange of expertise Interroll is expanding interactive contact with its customers with new online services. Training sessions can now be booked and conducted via the Internet, meetings with experts can be organised, and videos on industry topics can be viewed. A cornerstone of the new offering is the Interroll Academy which, for many years, has been transferring knowledge between the company’s employees, customers and partners. The integrated learning programmes combine different learning methods, techniques and materials. Users can access online training from anywhere at any time. For example, training is available for Interroll’s Layout Designer planning software. www.interroll.com Connectors site includes easy-to understand infographics Atam , the manufacturer of industrial connectors and encapsulated coils, has revamped its Web site with a revised layout that combines photos and creative graphics The easy-to-browse site includes infographics that translate technical concepts into icons, making them easier to understand. Users can find information in no more than three clicks. The products section has been improved, and a new innovation section describes Atam’s production process and allows users to navigate through its departments. A download area gives access to catalogues, instructions and presentations. www.atam.uk.com White Paper examines trends in cybersecurity TÜV Rheinland, the testing, inspection and certification services provider, has released a White Paper called Cybersecurity Trends for 2020 , which discusses seven key trends, including attacks on smart supply chains, threats to medical equipment and weaknesses in real-time operating systems. “It is particularly serious that cybercrime is increasingly affecting our personal security and the stability of society as a whole,” explains Petr Láhner, TÜV’s executive vice-president for Industry Service & Cybersecurity. “One of the reasons for this is that digital systems are finding their way into more and more areas of our daily lives. Digitalisation offers many advantages – but it is important that these systems and thus the people are safe from attacks." https://insights.tuv.com/cybersecurity-trends-2020 White Paper examines extending TSN to include wireless
