47 www.drivesncontrols.com May 2020 NEW PRODUCTS n ABB has released a plug-in ProfiSafe module that adds safety functions to its ACS380, ACS580 and ACS880 VSDs.The FSPS-21 module removes the need for external safety components and reduces the need for configuration. The TÜV Nord-certifiedmodule allows safe machine control and safety communications betweenVSDs and PLCs via the ProfiSafe over the Profinet IO protocol. It supports the STO and SS1-t functions, and achieves SIL 3 / PL e safety levels. The module provides control, safety and PC tool communications via one Ethernet cable, simplifying installation. www.abb.com B&R Automation has more than doubled the RAM capacity of its Compact-S series PLCs with a new model that offers 512Mb of RAM and 2Gb of internal flashmemory. The X20CP0484-1 PLC is ideal for high- performance applications. The maintenance-free PLC is 37.5mmwide, including its power supply, and supports Ethernet, Powerlink, USB and RS-232 communications, with Can as an option. X20 I/Omodules can be connected directly to the controller. www.br-automation.com InvertekDrives has updated its panel- mounting Optidrive P2 IP20VSDwith enhanced features, including a high- definitionTFT display that makes it easier to see operating information and parameters fromalmost any viewing angle. SafeTorque Off (STO) functionality is standard, as areModbus and Can.The drives are available in IP20 enclosures up to 250kW, IP55 up to 200kW, and the outdoor rated IP66 / Nema 4X up to 30kW. Power ratings are from0.75–250kW, 220–300V in single- and three-phase. www.invertekdrives.com igus has announced a Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) cable for use in energy chains. The chainflex CFBUS.PUR.042 SPE cable uses one pair of wires instead of the usual four, reducing the outer diameter by 25%. Although this cuts the data rate from 1GBit/s to 10MBit/s, it is said to be fast enough for many sensor applications. The cable is designed to be used with theT1 connector developed for SPE. Durable shielding results in good electromagnetic compatibility. The cable has an abrasion-resistant, notch- proof PUR jacket. www.igus.co.uk/chainflex Phoenix Contact has launched two unmanaged switches for EtherNet/IP and Profinet applications. They have the suffix PNE and are designed for uses where Profinet and EtherNet/IP data needs to be prioritised with respect to other Ethernet packets. The switches not only offer the same multicast filtering as existing PN Profinet switches, but they also support the UDP prioritisation of EtherNet/IP data traffic. www.phoenixcontact.co.uk Iwis has developed a contactless system for measuring elongation of chains while they are running, and giving an early warning if a chain needs to be re-tensioned or replaced. The plug-and-play CCM-S system works with chains moving at speeds from less than 0.1m/s to 5m/s. It senses not only the elongation of the entire chain, but can split the chain into segments and sense differences from the average. The module does not need any attachments, calibration or preset values. It is ready to use as soon as it is plugged in via a USB or IO-Link cable. The system operates on the induction principle: the chain’s rollers are identified as they move past sensor coils. The elongation is the difference between the distance between the sensors and the nominal dimension of the chain. The CCM-S works out the ratio between the measured and nominal lengths, and calculates the elongation. The system detects one strand of the chain, but can also monitor duplex and triplex chains. It can measure the elongation of carbon steel and stainless-steel chains in BS pitches from 08B to 32B, or Ansi pitches from 40 to 160. Pitches larger than 50.8mm can be handled by mounting two modules behind each other, with each working as one sensor. The device also measures the chain temperature at the sliding guide on the surface of the chain rollers. High temperatures might indicate lack of lubrication. If the chain hits the system’s guide – as a result of stiff links, for example – this is registered by a jolt sensor. Iwis drive systems 0121 5213600 www.iwis.com Schaffner has announced a series of passive filters designed to mitigate harmonics at higher power ranges (250–500kW) in demanding drive applications. The ecosine max filters are available in versions for 400V and 480V AC, 50 or 60Hz. The range includes three-choke versions (FN3470/80/72/82) designed to achieve <5% harmonic distortion current (THDi) at rated power, even when using drives without DC-link chokes. There are also more economical two-chokes versions (FN3471/81/73/83) designed to achieve <5% total THDi at rated power if used with drives including at least a 4% DC-link choke. These can also be used for drives without DC-link chokes, reaching a THDi of 8%. The filters comply with IEEE-519 and other power quality standards. They are said to extend the service lives of equipment and to cut energy costs. The filters are available either with a circuit breaker switch to protect the trap capacitor bank, or with a trap disconnect jumper to allow third- party circuit breaker switches to be used. Schaffner www.myecosine.com Nord has developed a permanent magnet synchronous motor with an efficiency that it describes as IE5+. The modular motor will be available initially in power ratings from 0.35–1.1kW with continuous torque ratings from 1.6–4.8Nm. It will operate at speeds from 0–2,100 rpm. The unventilated, smooth- bodied motor is said to achieve efficiencies that, at times, are “significantly” higher than IE5. It can be operated in the partial load range. The motors offer high power densities and can be installed in tight spaces. Direct motor attachments are available, as well as Nema and IEC attachments. Options include integrated encoders and mechanical brakes. By delivering constant torque over a wide speed range, the IE5+ motors reduce the number of variants needed, cutting costs and simplifying logistics, storage and servicing. Payback times are said to be short. The IE5+ motor can be combined with Nord gearboxes and drive electronics, and is said to be particularly suitable for use in logistics.
