48 n NEW PRODUCTS RS Components added more than 340 new products to its RS Pro range of automation sensors. New ultrasonic proximity sensors and fibre optical sensors complement existing photoelectric proximity sensors (through-beam, retro-reflective and diffuse), inductive proximity sensors and capacitive proximity sensors. The sensors can detect a wide range of materials including metals, plastics, paper, liquids, powders and particles. They can be incorporated into quality and verification systems – for example, to count, detect the presence or absence of objects, or to measure parameters such as pressure, flow and viscosity. The range also includes load cells, rotary encoders, thermocouples, switches and cables, as well as accessories such as mounting brackets and test switches. The products, which come with a three-year warranty, are audited against international standards and are covered by the RS Pro Seal of Approval to indicate their ability to deliver quality, reliability and durability. The actuators deliver forces of up to 16kN. The onboard electronics eliminate the need for external controls. www.thomsonlinear.com Curtiss-Wright’s Industrial Division has launched a rotary sensor with non-contacting, Hall-effect technology, offering a long operating life and high-performance measurement (linearity is <±0.4%) with two independent and electrically-isolated outputs. The Penny & Giles SRH76 sensors have an alloy body with polymer bearings and sealed electronics. They are designed for heavy-duty position-sensing. www.cw-industrialgroup.com Interroll has unveiled what it claims is the world's most powerful synchronous drum motor for belt conveyors, with an output of 1.8kW. It will allow automated material flow systems to be implemented economically to transport a wider range of goods using a single conveyor system. The DM 0138 drummotor offers good acceleration and braking performance with low energy consumption and the ability to position conveyed goods precisely without needing extra sensors, simplifying the integration of packaging and other processing machines into automated flows. The 138mm- diameter motor has an output that previously could only be achieved using 165mm-diameter asynchronous motors. The motor is optionally available in an oil-free version. The enclosed drive complies with the guidelines of the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG). It uses materials certified to USDA and FDA specifications, and EU Regulation EC 1935/2004. The MotionCompass tool allows users to input operating points and key parameters, as well as requirements for gearboxes and position feedback. It provides a prioritised list of suitable products. Users enter the application’s speed and torque requirements, followed by parameters such as input voltage, maximum current and diameter. They can then adjust the speed, efficiency, power and current ranking percentages to set motor recommendations to match their importance relative to the application’s requirements. They can immediately see prices and lead times. www.portescap.com/en/motioncompass Calculator helps you choose the best linear guide for a project Ewellix – formerly SKF Motion Technologies – has announced an online calculator for linear guides including rail guides and linear ball bearings. It helps designers to select the right guide for an application and includes filters such as“lifetime”and “static safety”. Users do not have to commit to a product group from the start and can see all available options. They start with a general description of the task, with the movement divided into load phases – constant load and identical direction of movement. They then enter forces and to assign them to the load phases. The results are listed in a table which can be filtered by guide type, configuration, kinematics, lifetime, and static safety. The input and results of the calculation can be documented in a PDF. www.ewellix.com/en/global/product-selectors/linear-guide-select Enhanced portal simplifies CAD and document management Harting has enhanced the functions available via its myHarting customer portal to simplify the management of data relating to its products and services. For example, previously design data has been available only in the Step and JT formats. A new MultiCAD download function can now provide 2D and 3D CAD data for more than 13,000 items in more than 50 formats. And while documents previously had to be downloaded individually, a new data manager allows up to 50 documents to be obtained in one step. It is also possible to add text notes to documents, and to manage these notes. www.harting.com/UK/en-gb Configurator helps to specify industrial enclosures Spelsberg has launched an online configurator for its Geos industrial enclosures. You first choose an enclosure or cabinet, and its dimensions. The configurator then lets you pick accessories from hinge doors and partition walls, to mounting plates. It provides a 360-degree view with a 3D zoom function. The tool also prices the enclosure and accessories and allows you to send an order to Spelsberg. https://configurator.spelsberg.com
