64 September 2021 www.drivesncontrols.com n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA Guide explains Ecodesign regulations for motors Following updates to the Ecodesign Directive in July, which revised the regulations governing the energy efficiency requirements for new electric motors, the Association for Electrical and Mechanical Trades (AEMT) has published an easy-to-use reference explaining the implications for motor users. The four-page guide outlines the changes that came into force under the revised regulations, particularly around the energy efficiency standard that newly supplied motors must meet. It also outlines exemptions in the regulations and highlights further changes that are due to come into force in July 2023. The free downloadable guide also explains what key aspects of the regulations mean to motor users. www.theaemt.com/technical-info/motor-eco-design-efficiencies Online tool helps to pick maintenance-free linear drives igus has launched an online tool for configuring its drylin maintenance-free linear modules, including spindles, rack-and-pinions and belt drives. After entering application parameters, the tool shows all suitable self-lubricating drive technologies and their service lives. Users can choose the best system for the application, configure it further and order it with accessories such as motors and controls. The configurator makes suggestions based on application data such as load, stroke length, speed, and self-locking settings. Filters can set special operating conditions such as high temperatures, or food sector compliance. Prices are calculated and displayed, allowing the effects of options on cost to be assessed. https://drylin-drive-technology-configurator.igus.tools Guide explains howVSDs can save money and the environment WEG has published a guide on howVSDs (variable-speed drives) can save money and protect the environment. The Guide to variable-speed drive applications also offers advice on choosing VSDs for fans, pumps, HVAC systems and compressors. The publication explains that VSDs can deliver precise speed control, including during start-up and stopping. Another advantage of VSDs is that the gradual acceleration of motors from a standstill extends their lives and cuts maintenance. Without a VSD, the motor will start instantly with a large current. The free guide explains how these processes affect costs. www.weg-automation.com App allows precise regulation of compressed air and gases Festo has developed an app that makes filling containers with compressed air or other gases more economical when using its VTEMmotion terminal. The Flow Control Motion App can control flow rates up to 600 l/min on up to eight channels. It is one of a series of apps that allowmachine developers to create basic machine types and then add specific functions. For example, the Selectable Pressure Level App can be used to move filling nozzles to bottles or containers quickly and accurately, while the Leakage Diagnostics Motion Appmonitors for leaks. www.festo.com/vtem APPOINTMENTS To advertise contact AndyWylie +44 (0) 1732 370341 andy.wylie@dfamedia.co.uk Embedded Software Engineer Newtown, Powys, UK Do you have what it takes to work in a dynamic setting, for a leading drives manufacturer with a highly motivated team of Software Developers?
