Drives & Controls May 2022

With exhibitions off limits recently, Euchner needed a show with the right audience and impact to launch its recently introduced solutions, including the EKS and CKS key systems and MGB2 multifunction gatebox with fieldbus connectivity. DrivesExpo didn’t disappoint! Placing the success of the show on its hands-on approach by filling its stand with physical products and working demos, Euchner’s David Dearden says: “Despite being perhaps the best kept secret in machinery safety solutions in the UK, the feedback from visitors to the stand was great, with many describing our MGB2 as the ‘next big thing’ in machine safety.” Across the three days, the company was inundated with enquiries from engineers and decision makers that had projects both under review and in progress, where Euchner products and solutions weren’t just me-too, but could make a genuine difference and have a positive impact on machinery and personnel safety. The move towards Industry 4.0 was also evident, with visitors considering Euchner’s IO-Link compatible solutions and their ability to read diagnostic data relevant to control from a standalone safety switch or safety chain consisting of up to 20 switches. The CTA for example enables comprehensive diagnostic information to be forwarded to the control system, with the safety switches measuring/supplying process-relevant parameters and information on preventive maintenance measures in real-time to ensure potential issues are indicated before machine failures can occur. The free safety consultations also proved successful, with Euchner now extending the offer beyond the show to include on- site visits booked between now and the end of July. n SHOW REVIEW Euchner emerges as the best kept secret in machinery safety! Euchner U.K. Ltd t: +44 (0)114 256 0123 e: sales@euchner.co.uk w: www.euchner.co.uk Highlights of the trade show appearance were standard and precision gear units as well as the drive solution for automatic transport systems Sumitomo Drive Technologies returned from this year's Drives & Controls in Birmingham with a thoroughly positive summary. For the second time, the company exhibited at the leading event for drives, power transmission and motion control. The gearbox solutions on display, and in particular the complete solution for driving automated guided vehicles, Smartris, were very well received by visitors. "We were very pleased to finally be able to personally present our wide range of products to customers and interested parties at Drives & Controls again after four years. The show was well attended and there were many opportunities for good technical discussions and networking," says Stephen Brown, General Manager at SM- Cyclo UK, the UK subsidiary of the drive technology specialist. Robustness, compactness, and reliability of drives The focus of the trade show presentation was on the robustness, compactness and reliability of drives. These characteristics are guaranteed by the Cyclo gear principle, invented by the company in 1931, with its high durability and long service life. It can be found at Sumitomo Drive Technologies in a wide range of drive kits as gearboxes, gearbox-motor combinations or special precision gearboxes for any industrial application. Visitors to the fair paid particular attention to the complete solution for driving automated guided vehicles: Smartris. The complete solution is a combination of the three smart components gear unit, servo motor and drive controller. The cyclo principle in the gearbox and the in-wheel structure ensure the appropriate compactness for a wide range of automation applications in logistics or manufacturing. With lifetime grease lubrication, Smartris is maintenance-free, easy to install and commission. Thus, the new automation solution combines the tradition of Cyclo gearbox with the innovation of Industry 4.0. Sumitomo Drive Technologies showed the automation solution for the first time in the UK at the exhibition. n SHOW REVIEW Sumitomo records high interest in drive solutions based on the Cyclo principle SM‐Cyclo UK Ltd t: 01482 790340 e: smuk.customerservice@shi-g.com w: www.sumitomodrive.com itomo_Reviews_d&c0522.qxp_Layout 1 28/04/2022 20:33 Page 1
