Drives & Controls April 2023

64 n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA APPOINTMENTS April 2023 www.drivesncontrols.com Schaeffler is offering an app that determines the best types and quantities of lubricant for rolling bearings, as well as grease service lives and relubrication intervals. The free app draws on data from the Schaeffler’s in-house rolling bearing calculation tool Bearinx. It is claimed to prevent under- or over-lubrication, and the risk of premature bearing failures. Up to 80% of all early bearing failures are caused by incorrect lubrication. The app, available in a Web format or as a download from app stores, also offers guidance on selecting lubricants from Schaeffler’s Arcanol range. https://medias.schaeffler.de/en/grease-app-overview White Paper sheds light on challenges faced by optical sensors Baumer has published a White Paper that looks at why ambient light can have such a significant effect on the performance of optical sensors – and how to tackle the issue. Although optical sensors offer precise, non-contact detection with short response times, they are susceptible to detection errors because they operate in the same spectral range as artificial light and sunlight. Topics covered include the cause of the problem, its potential effects, troubleshooting and some practical counter-measures. The free, downloadable Paper outlines the features and benefits of some of the latest optical sensors designed to provide reliable detection under any lighting conditions. https://drivesncontrols.news/pgi8a9 Report identifies ways to boost efficiency of motor-driven systems The industrial products and services distributor Rubix has released a report that addresses inefficiency in motor-driven systems. Called Quick wins to cut energy waste, the report sets out opportunities for improving efficiency across these systems – in some cases, doubling efficiency. It says that energy savings of 20-30% are possible by optimising motor-driven systems – typically through a combination of asset tracking, repair and replacement programmes, and condition monitoring. The report considers technologies such as VSDs, efficient motors, gearboxes, lubricants and belts, and how to apply them. https://drivesncontrols.news/mbp984 Digital transformation report gathers expert insights In July 2022, Siemens brought together more than 2,000 experts to explore digital and sustainable transformation in Manchester. It has now produced 36-page free report summarising their insights. The report, called Digital Transformation Imperative, examines issues including: resilience and sustainability; digitalisation; and future technologies. It covers real-world benefits already being reaped from digital transformation and ideas on accelerating ambitions in terms of competitiveness and sustainability. https://drivesncontrols.news/k0g9d7 App helps to choose bearing lubricants and lubrication kit Area Technical Sales Engineer Location: SOUTH ENGLAND Two Positions: Due to continued expansion and growth, we are seeking two highly self motivated external technical sales engineers to join our successful team.
