TECHNOLOGY n MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC HAS ANNOUNCED a compact PLC for implementing cost-effective machines with up to 60 I/O points. The Melsec FX5S PLC offers Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) functions for entrylevel automation applications in sectors such as food and beverage, water and machining, The PLC is part of Mitsubishi’s Melsec iQ-F series of compact, high-performance PLCs. It is said to be easy to configure and use, streamlining deployment and allowing users to set up installations quickly. It also delivers high-speed performance for accurate positioning applications. The built-in IIoT support reduces the investment needed to digitalise operations. It offers datalogging and data flow analysis functions to speed up and enhance troubleshooting and root cause analysis. A built-in Web server allows operators to access these functions and monitor operations remotely. The PLC is compatible with the CC-Link IE Field Basic open industrial Ethernet technology, allowing it to connect with other automation devices such as HMIs, drives and remote I/O. The Fluke 2052 Advanced Wire Tracer and 2062 Advanced Pro Wire Tracer kits have a safety rating of Cat IV 600V – the highest for any wire tracer, with others tending to be Cat III rated. The Cat IV rating protects users from the most dangerous overvoltage transients (spikes of up to 8kV) that can occur in industrial environments. The tracers can be used to locate electric cables quickly in walls, ceilings and floors, to find out if there are any breaks, open-circuits or shorts, or to identify breakers and fuses. They can also be used to trace non-metallic pipes and conduits, as well as low-voltage wires and data cables. The 2062 model incorporates a patented smart sensor that identifies the orientation of energised wires and displays the information on a 3.5-inch TFT LCD colour display, which also offers help screens for simple, error-free set-ups. A tip sensor on the Fluke 2062 makes it ideal for tracing wires in corners, tight spaces and junction boxes. The tracers work by detecting signals transmitted via an electromagnetic field, rather than locating metal parts or voltages. They use two methods to detect signals in wires and cables: passive tracing, without using a transmitter, for non-contact voltage detection; and active tracing, using Fluke’s 2000T transmitter, for other modes. This transmitter senses automatically whether the system is energised or de-energised, and selects a 6.25kHz or 32.768kHz output frequency accordingly. The tracers incorporate three transmitter modes (high signal, low signal and loop), four receiver tracing modes, and eight sensitivity levels for flexibility and accuracy when tracing. the 2052). Both kits include Fluke’s i400 AC current clamp for safely inducing a tracing signal on cables without making contact with live wires. Also included are test leads, alligator clips, outlet adapters, magnetic hangers and batteries. The tracers are 1m drop-tested, IP40-protected and backed by a one-year warranty. www.fluke.com www.rittal.co.uk
