48 n NEW PRODUCTS n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA October 2023 www.drivesncontrols.com CP Automation is offering a cloud-based platform that provides real-time data to improve visibility of power quality at a grid edge. The QubeScan platform, from the power security specialist Powerside, allows users to sense, evaluate and act on changing power quality and grid stability. The platform comes with customisable analytics, allowing operators to review and detect events. They can also record and analyse shareable data and configure trend alerts. It can send users emails with alerts or warnings about power failures at a particular time, and go back to the electricity grid as part of the root cause analysis. CP Automation 01724 851 515 The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) has launched a Web site that raises awareness of the advantages robots provide and offers independent guidance to potential robot users on their automation journeys. The Go4Robotics site is aimed, in particular at SMEs (small and mid-sized enterprises), offering them educational content and checklists. Since robots are becoming easier to install, implement and operate, SMEs have greater access to automation. IFR experts dispel myths about robots for users who are new to automation. Managers can also learn how about trends such as easy-to-program robots for non-experts. https://go4robotics.com Free tool calculates light curtain safety distances Pilz has released a browser-based tool that calculates safety distances for safety light curtains. The free, time-saving calculator determines the necessary safety distances and suggests appropriate light curtains. It performs calculations for vertically protected fields (using the perpendicular approach) for finger, hand and body protection. It suggests products in accordance with ISO 13849 or IEC 62061. Information points with explanations support the searches. A graphical representation illustrates each calculation. The calculator provides extra information on individual steps, such as calculating the minimum distance, for example. https://www.pilz.com/safety-distance-calculator eBook examines technologies enabling the digital factory The distributor Mouser Electronics has collaborated with Analog Devices (ADI) to publish an eBook that explores technological advances in digital factories, including sensors, edge computing, and high-speed communications. In Leading the Way to the Digital Factory, nine experts offer insights into deploying new technologies on the factory floor. There are four chapters addressing different technologies and strategies, including smart sensors and actuators, field instruments connected via Ethernet-APL, and the convergence of IT and OT. https://resources.mouser.com/manufacturer-ebooks/ leading-the-way-to-the-digital-factory White Paper helps to navigate multi-axis electric motion Norgren has produced a White Paper to help OEMs to navigate complex considerations when specifying multi-axis electric motion systems. Called Multi Axis Electric Motion: What to know, what to consider, the paper offers insights into challenges such as moving heavy loads and system mounting, as well as the requirement for control, speed, accuracy, and precision. Norgren has expanded its range of multi-axis electric motion systems to offer 1,000 standard electric motion components. Users can access a wide choice of linear and multi-axis configurations for a variety of applications. www.norgren.com/en/products/electric-motion/multi-axis Cloud platform provides data on grid-edge power quality Baumer says that a compact new optical sensor offers high reserve capacity and will allow designers to spend less time selecting the right sensor for an application. The 0330 sensor uses 3D models that integrate the beam path, thus saving installation time and costs. The sensor only requires a touch with a ferromagnetic object for easy, reproducible and tamperproof teaching. Incorporating the beam paths in the 3D MCAD model saves time from the design stage to installation. It eliminates the need for further alignment, so the sensor is ready for use almost immediately. The device is available with a linear beam option for reliable detection of dark, irregular or perforated objects. In these situations, diffuse sensors with background suppression offer detection ranges of up to 385mm, with the linear beam providing high immunity to ambient light. In the past, two sensors were needed. The T-slot mounting MK59xx sensors have a detection range of 50mm. As well as conventional switching outputs, they have an IO-Link interface that allows continuous monitoring of the cylinder position. The port can also provide a stroke counter for evaluating cylinder service lives, a stroke timer which can warn of mechanical or air pressure problems, and a temperature monitor. www.ifm.com/gb/en The belt-maker Gates has simplified the design and specification of beltdrive systems with its Design Power platform comprising two applications – Design Flex Pro and Design IQ – which have been updated and upgraded to offer a quicker, more accurate and easier means of designing belt-drive systems. The platform’s capabilities have also been widened to provide a more collaborative and dynamic approach to producing designs and specifications. www.gates.com Phoenix Contact has released a range of M12 SPE (single-pair Ethernet) connectors with identical mechanical installation conditions and easy integration with sensors. Male and female versions also support flying leads. The single-pair data cabling transmits data at up to 1Gbps as well as up to 60W of power over up to 1km. As well as IP67 protection, the connectors provide a shield connection to ensure secure Ethernet communication from the field to the cloud. www.phoenixcontact.co.uk
