It also produces oneside coated self-adhesive label stock and has a production volume reaching 72,000 tonnes per year. The company selected ABB to upgrade its drive control system at its mill in Kauttua, Finland, for improved eciency. The project included supplying and commissioning an upgrade for the existing PM2 drive control system as well as new drives. The project required the team to continue to use some existing, older drives. This increased the project complexity because it required experience and knowledge of the older systems. Among the innovations is an advanced datalogger tool designed to collect and store conƒgured data at the millisecond level. This tool (the PMC800) is proving to be invaluable for fault tracing, allowing historical events to be analysed, and the mill to enhance its eciency and bolster its problem-solving capabilities. The renewed system and improved availability will make it possible to increase the annual production from the line. Machine operators can take advantage of the new operating stations and the digital applications integrated into the system.
