54 n NEW PRODUCTS May 2024 www.drivesncontrols.com Sick has developed a 1D laser distance sensor for ultra-high precision measurements in the micron range, even in challenging conditions. The OD7000 comprises a separate controller and sensor head designed to t into tight machine spaces. The sensor can measure di erences in height accurately even on dicult materials. A tiny light spot precisely targets the object and outputs a precise measurement, regardless of the colour or surface material. It can even measure curved surfaces. A chromatic confocal technology enables precise measurements on materials from black to transparent, di use or re ective. It can check, for example, whether a target is smooth or is positioned correctly. It can measure holes, or check if a material is the right thickness. Using one sensor head, it can measure up to three thin layers simultaneously, even if the material is transparent. There are two types of controller, one of which can de ne an encoder input as a trigger to output measurement data, thus avoiding the need for a separate encoder to set up a machine. There is a choice of three sensor heads spanning measurement ranges of 600μm, 4mm and 10mm, with resolutions of 25, 180 and 400nm respectively. A software tool with an easy-to-use graphic interface allows users to visualise the installation and con gure the controller rapidly. Serial RS-232 / RS-422 or Ethernet TCP/IP interfaces are standard. Sick www.sick.com Laser sensor can measure distances with micron accuracy even in challenging conditions Mechanical axes promise high load-bearing capacities and long operating lives Rugged Panel PCs do not lock users into unwanted functions Festo has developed a range of mechanical axes series for toothed belt and ballscrew applications in Cartesian handling systems. The ELGD axes have a simple design with high load-bearing capacities, reliability, rigidity and precision, as well as long service lives. The ELGD-BS spindle drive version o ers a con gurable stroke range of up to 2.5m, while the ELGD-TB toothed belt drive has a stroke length of up to 8.5m. Both are available in square or wide pro les (with a 30% height saving). They can be used for: n cantilever and pick-and-place systems for handling small parts, where short cycles, precision and repeatability are needed; n handling systems for top loaders, where they o er a good cost/performance ratio, high travel speeds and long stroke lengths; and n automation of 3D printing applications requiring dynamic, low-vibration movements in harsh environments. The axes can accommodate powerful belts or ballscrews for high feed forces and rapid acceleration. There is a choice of carriages, including a long carriage with a second pair of split ball-bearing cartridges, supporting high torque levels. A stainless-steel cover strip minimises particle emissions in cleanrooms, and reduces particle ingress in harsh environments. Cartesian designs can be simpli ed using standard brackets to connect the axes together. Later this year, the new axes will be integrated into Festo’s Handling Guide Online (HGO), allowing users to design Cartesian systems in about 10 minutes, including documentation. Festo 0800 626422 www.festo.com/gb OnLogic has unveiled a series of con gurable, secure, rugged panel PCs and industrial touchscreen displays, that do not lock users into paying for functions that they don’t need. The Tacton Panel PCs o er a choice of: processors from Intel N97 to i3-N305; Windows 10 IoT, Linux or Ubuntu operating systems; 18 resistive or capacitive touchscreens from 12.1” (1280 x 800) to 21.5" (1920 x 1080); and IP66/IP69K front panel protection. The Tacton TC401 is a rugged all-in-one Panel PC with built-in AI acceleration. I/Os can be customised using OnLogic’s ModBay to meet user needs. Builtin intrusion detection can warn users if the cabinet in which the PC is installed is opened. An optional port-blocking and cablesecuring bracket helps to protect against access to unused ports and secure cables, reducing the risk of accidental disconnections. The displays are UV- and vibration-resistant, and support 1224V or 12-48V power inputs. The screens are available in regular or high brightness, with the option of a built-in camera. Onboard TPM 2.0 hardware security provides secure boot, platform integrity monitoring and remote attestation capabilities. The panel PCs can be installed using Vesa mounts, or panelmounted using patent-pending toolless clips, designed to prevent unscrewing in vibration-prone installations. A corner-mounted LED light pipe provides status lights that are visible from multiple viewing angles. The HMI versions (Tacton TN101) can be used with any of OnLogic's industrial or rugged computers. OnLogic www.onlogic.com/tacton Kollmorgen has updated its AKD2G servodrive to include new communications protocols that support easier integration with third-party controllers. The drive now supports Pro net IRT and Ethernet/IP with CIP Sync alongside CANopen, EtherCat and FSoE timesynchronised protocols. The update allows synchronised motion between multiple drives using a variety of control architectures. The drive, available in one- and two-axis variants, oŽers the option of SafeMotion Monitor functional safety rmware that supports SIL3/PLe safety levels. www.kollmorgen.com/akd2g
