Drives & Controls Magazine March 2025

REO has produced a free book on good EMC engineering practices when installing “power drive systems” (PDSs) – as dened by EN/IEC 618003 –commonly known as VSDs (variable-speed drives). The 62-page downloadable publication, produced in conjunction with the EMC expert, Keith Armstrong from Cherry Clough Associates, covers topics such as emissions, immunity, EMC suppression, safety and cost implications. It also looks at the requirements of the standard and includes real-life case studies, as well as references for further information. https://drivesncontrols.news/tv3tapcf Drive cable selector can calculate guaranteed service lives igus has released a new version of its readycable nder tool that helps you to choose the best cable for a drive application from a range of 6,000 cables that comply with 38 manufacturer standards. An AIpowered service life calculator can show the guaranteed life of the cable, based on laboratory test data. Users can enter the part number of a motor manufacturer’s cable to convert it into the appropriate readycable. There is a choice of up to seven cable qualities for special requirements in energy chains. When changing cable quality, the price, cost savings and delivery times are shown in real time, allowing quick ordering from an online shop. www.igus.co.uk/info/drive-cables-readycable Web store offers faster access to automation products Camozzi has launched a Web store for its portfolio of automation equipment, including motion and –uid control components, systems and technologies. The new site o—ers faster load times, enhanced search functions, personalised recommendations, simplied navigation, and the ability to compare products to nd the most suitable types, including alternatives or replacements. Existing customers can continue to use their current log-in details. The new store also o—ers access to tools and technical documentation. www.store.camozzi.co.uk Stepper motor actuator tool adds encoder option Thomson Industries has upgraded its online tool for selecting stepper motor linear actuators (SMLAs), adding the ability to include encoders. This makes it easier for users to assess options for incorporating position data into designs. In a few steps, they can dene motor sizes, screw and nut congurations, and specify encoders. The tool updates the product specications automatically and provides real-time visualisations. Once an encoder is chosen, the tool supplies dimensional data, and users can download CAD models. Pricing is built in, allowing users to move from selection to purchasing. www.thomsonlinear.com/en/products/ motorized-lead-screws-products 48 n NEW PRODUCTS n DESIGN DATA AND MULTIMEDIA March 2025 www.drivesncontrols.com Werma has announced a pair of LED-based recessed beacons that o—er smart functions such as status change by touch, and time-based escalation modes. The MC55 Touch version can trigger visual and audible alarms in the event of a machine failure, and provides three colours (red, yellow and green). It allows an operator to acknowledge an alarm by touching it, thus sending a feedback signal to the controller. The MC 55 Touch Smart version adds the option of conguring its behaviour – for example, its colours, patterns (continuous, –ashing or pulsating) or tone – via software. The output can also be set to pulse signal or 24V switching. The Smart version’s software can dene time-controlled escalations. Up to two escalation levels are possible for each status. For example, if a conveyor belt stops, the MC55 can trigger a warning light. If there is no reaction, an acoustic signal is also activated after a set time to attract further attention. It can also control machine functions with an output signal for starting or stopping, control peripheral devices directly, and switch up to 200mA Werma www.werma.com/en Free book offers guidance on EMC practices for VSDs Wireless couplers double their range and power capacity Multi-colour beacons can send feedback to a controller Phoenix Contact has announced a new version of its NearFi couplers for contactless transmission of power and realtime Ethernet data, doubling their range for wireless data transmission. They also transmit twice the power for automatic current compensation, or for forwarding two electrically isolated voltages with parallel connections. Wireless data transmissions of up to 100mm are possible. Parallel connection of two NearFi coupler paths enables either power transmission to be doubled to 100W, or two electrically isolated voltages to be provided, each up to 50W. The IP65-protected devices have M12 connections offering flexible field wiring using either M12 screw connectors or pushpull fast-locking. NearFi is a contactless realtime transmission technology. It transmits power and data across an air gap. It offers protocol-independent and latency-free communications for any Ethernet protocol at up to 100Mbps. It can replace wear-prone connections and slip-rings. Successful data exchange is indicated by an LED ring with all-round visibility. Phoenix says the technology can eliminate physical connections in moving applications, avoiding downtime due to bent or worn contacts. It can also be used to change robot tools quickly and efficiently. Phoenix Contact 01952 681700 www.phoenixcontact.co.uk
