HYDRAULICS 30 HYDRAULICS & PNEUMATICS January/February 2020 www.hpmag.co.uk Gates’ hydraulic systems to be used to help train the next generation of hydraulic systems engineers in the United Kingdom. Gates, the global provider of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions, has partnered with the National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC) to enhance the expertise of the next generation of hydraulic systems engineers. Gates has provided the NFPC with hoses and couplings from the new Gates MEGASys MXT hydraulic systems range now fitted to a hydraulic systems training rig in NFPC’s Technical Centre 3, in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. As the NFPC remains committed to showcasing new technology across their training operations, the selection of MEGASys MXT hoses was a perfect fit, introducing those involved in the maintenance and management of integrated systems to a new, highly innovative product range. Integration “As a world leader in training, the NFPC is proud to integrate the latest technology in our training rigs and facilities,” says John Savage, director of NFPC. “We help to establish the benchmarks for industrial training across the UK and deliver it to between 1500-1800 technicians, engineers and advanced apprentices each year. Innovation, product reliability and safety are vital when installing hoses on training rigs, which are continually handled during training sessions, and Gates is a brand that delivers the qualities we need.” The New Standard in Premium Hydraulics Gates’ focus on innovation and investment in materials science produced a new generation of lightweight hydraulic hoses; the Gates MEGASys MXT hydraulics product range has set new standards for product performance, efficiency, durability and speed of installation. MEGASys MXT hoses have been tested to three times the industry standard impulse criteria, and meet all performance and dimension standards including EN 853 2SN and EN 857 2SC, as well as ISO 1436 R2, ISO 11237 R16, R17 and 19. These lightweight OE quality hoses make significant contributions to the weight saving targets set by equipment manufacturers, without compromising on strength and durability. “MEGASys MXT hose technology features a 35% reduction in the force required to bend it, which makes routing around confined spaces far easier and more ergonomic for installers, said Kevin Follows, the hydraulic systems and field engineering manager for Gates EMEA. “This means savings on maintenance through less downtime for operators and extended service intervals. Longer lasting hoses with a more lightweight design add further benefits through long-term fuel savings and a smaller emissions footprint.” www.gates.com Flat brushless DC outer rotor motors showcased at key show Industry supporting role for Gates MEGASys MXT Precision mechatronics drive system specialist, Electro Mechanical Systems Ltd (EMS) recently showcased the brand new Faulhaber flat brushless DC outer rotor motors at the Robotics and Automation show at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. The UK’s sole distributor of Faulhaber motors, EMS offers the most comprehensive range small mechatronic drive systems on the market and this latest offering is setting new standards in high performance. This new range from Faulhaber uses innovative winding technology and optimum design that allows it to deliver a torque of up to 134 mNm (100W) and a power to weight density that is unmatched. Its flat design and high performance make them ideal for the most demanding applications in robotics and medical devices. The iron-core motors with 14 high performance, rare earth magnets on the rotor and 12 teeth on the stator, come in a variety of sizes, measuring just 14mm, 16mm and 21mm long making them ideal for applications that require a short drive solution with high torque. Prominent “This new range of Faulhaber brushless motors offers a more compact, efficient option for a wide range of applications. Over the years brushless motors have become more prominent in applications such as handheld surgical tools and cordless power tools - the efficiency of the motor meaning they can be used for longer periods of time from a single battery charge,” explains Stewart Goulding, managing director at EMS ltd. “The range’s efficiency, reliability and power density mean it is ideally placed for use in robotics and medical applications. As such equipment becomes smaller, lighter and high-power density and efficient heat dissipation becomes more appealing and positively influences the performance of the device.” EMS Ltd also has a comprehensive UK manufacturing facility offering design and manufacturing of bespoke mechatronics to a range of sectors including the automotive, medical, metrology, petrochemical and personal health industries. www.ems-limited.co.uk Stewart Goulding: “This new range of Faulhaber brushless motors offers a more compact, efficient option for a wide range of applications.”
