HYDRAULICS 30 HYDRAULICS & PNEUMATICS January/February 2023 www.hpmag.co.uk Hydroscand UK has been awarded ISO 14001 & 45001 certification. The achievement marks the culmination of many months of preparation and hard work, demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmental and health and safety management to its team and customers. For several years, Hydroscand UK has held ISO 9001:2015 certification and the management team recognised the importance of working towards the standards ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. These internationally agreed standards set out the requirements for an environmental and health and safety management system respectively. Hydroscand UK believes there are several reasons why achieving these standards is important. First, there is increasing demand from its customers. Secondly, the company wants to demonstrate to its teams that it takes their health and safety seriously and that it is committed to conducting business in a responsible and sustainable way. Furthermore, Hydroscand UK states that it believes it is simply the right thing to do. The company believes having these management systems in place will benefit it and its customers for years to come. Formalising existing processes Hydroscand UK states that a lot of hard work was done to get the company ISO 14001 & 45001 certification for Hydroscand UK ready for its certification audits by its internal teams and by its expert partners at JBES Engineering Services and JAMES Learning & Development. Hydroscand UK claims a lot of what needed to be done was already in place. So, it formalised existing processes and, where necessary, developed and implemented new ways of working to meet the standards. The whole company is now involved in making changes that benefit everyone. Oliver Roberts, senior hose technician, comments: “The van has been rearranged because when you cut a hose, you get the fumes of the rubber cutting and the metal. But obviously now, the van has been placed in a specific place where the extraction for it will go straight out the door instead of up into the van.” More awareness Assistant manager, Deb Wardle, adds: “There’s a lot more awareness amongst the team now. Everybody seems to be more aware and is actually reporting things back to us now. There’s an awareness of things that potentially could be an issue or perhaps we could do this in a different way.” Hydroscand UK believes that achieving the certification will reinforce its core business value to be trustworthy and create a safe working environment and secure and sustainable future for the company, its customers and its employees. Hydroscand UK also maintains that it will give its teams and customers extra confidence in the company. www.hydroscand.co.uk
