Industry Update 86 MONITION has announced it has unveiled JANUS: A Cutting Edge Industry 4.0 Diagnostic Solution. The company says JANUS is a cloud-based intelligent data analytics and decision making platform, developed as part of a two-year Artificial Intelligence (AI) project by Monition’s R&D department, funded by InnovateUK - the UK’s innovation agency. As disruptive i4.0 technology, JANUS can enable intelligent health condition diagnostics for systems of assets, providing insight into potential causes of developing failures, opening up the“black box”to traceability. The company says JANUS simply meets the challenge of scalability and it can be applied to any industrial/non-industrial system regardless of their complexity and the level of operation. Modular design of the platform and internal flexibility of the relevant Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Decision Making (DM) algorithms make JANUS capable of being“fit for purpose”, and also they enable the platform to be integrated with any IT infrastructure. As a part of the further development strategy for JANUS, Monition says it is now looking at integrating the platform into a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) leading to develop an“Edge Computing”- based IoT technology and this innovation provides intelligent diagnostics next to an asset, which this in turn brings significant benefits in terms of efficiency and security for clients/businesses. Application of the JANUS valuable outputs to determine the operational performance level of assets and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) also account for further development streams. w| www.monition.com Cutting edge Industry 4.0 diagnostic solution MARTINDALE ELECTRIC, a UK market leader in safe isolation, has announced the arrival of its latest CABLOK series, which can provide installers and maintenance teams with a simple and reliable solution for locking off multiple breakers, switches and valves, to prevent the re-energising of circuits and systems during maintenance, as part of a safe isolation procedure. The company says the latest range of adjustable cable lockouts feature a flexible, PVC-insulated steel cable which is easy to thread and, can be simply adjusted to suit the required length before locking off with a simple squeeze action. Incorporating a built-in safety hasp, with space for up to six padlocks to be securely fixed, it allows multiple operatives to safely work on the same system. t| 01923 441717 w| http://martindale-electric.co.uk/ Flexible solution to safe isolation Measurement and automation specialist ENDRESS+HAUSER says it is in great shape as it celebrated its 50th anniversary on 11 November 2018. Now employing over 200 people, and with an estimated turnover of £46 million in 2018, the measurement and automation engineering specialist says it continues to break new sales records. Part of the Switzerland-headquartered Endress+Hauser group, the UK sales and production centre was founded in 1968 by Dr Georg H Endress, the grandfather of the current managing director. Originally situated on Southmoor Road in Manchester, the company moved to its current site on Floats Road in 1996. In 2008 the company opened a new £8 million state-of-the-art office and engineering facility to support its growth, followed in 2013 by a £1 million training centre incorporating the latest digital technology. Over the last 50 years Endress+Hauser says it has developed from a vendor of devices and instruments to a full- range services provider working with customers in process industries such as food and beverage, water and wastewater and oil and gas. Steven Endress took the reins as managing director in 2016, the first third-generation member of the Endress family to take an operational role in the family business. Reflecting on the 50-year anniversary, he said, ‘Over the years our buildings and the scope of our offer have changed as we seek to align with our customers’needs. But, without doubt, our most important asset is our people. It is the drive, ambition and attitude of my colleagues that makes the difference.’ t| 0161 286 5152 e| helen.white@uk.endress.com w| www.uk.endress.com Karl Lycett, Rittal UK’s product manager for climate control advises customers to make improvements now to be ready for next summer: “The temperatures may be feeling quite mild, but even if the thermometer hasn’t yet regularly dropped below zero, you’re probably no longer hearing the alarms on your cooling units. While this is likely to mean you’re spending less time maintaining overheating panels, it would be a mistake to forget about climate control. In fact, the opposite is true; this is actually the best time of year to turn your mind to your enclosures, carry out a climate review, and start to understand what changes or improvements need to be made.”Visit www.pwe.mag.co.uk for the full release. t| 01709 704000 e| cooling@rittal.co.uk . w| www.rittal.co.uk NewYear’s Resolution Celebrating 50 years of Swiss engineering | Plant &Works Engineering | Annual Buyers’ Guide 2019
