Böwe Systec has taken a majority stake in UK software engineering and automation supply chain specialist RED LEDGE, which has joined the Böwe Systec Group the two companies announced recently. Founded in 1996, software company Red Ledge specialises in Auto-ID solutions. Its barcode, RFID, voice and sensor technologies are used worldwide in post and parcel sorting centres, warehouses and production facilities. Red Ledge’s core expertise includes competitive software platforms such as warehouse management systems (WMS), warehouse control systems (WCS) and pharmaceutical serialisation systems. The acquisition of Red Ledge is an important milestone for Böwe Systec as a leading supplier of smart automation solutions. “As a ‘one-stop- shop’ we want to be the first port of call for all our customers’ intralogistics requirements”, stresses Böwe Systec managing director Joachim Koschier. w | www.redledge.co.uk w | www.boewe-systec.com / www.possehl.de Centrica Business Solutions has announced it is is investing in new heavyweight lifting equipment from STREET CRANE, as it deals with increasing demand for its range of combined heat and power (CHP) generation systems. The cranes will be used during the manufacturing process, helping to reduce build times and slash vehicle loading times. It will also reduce the risks associated with moving such heavy and bulky items. The significant investment with Street Crane includes on-site installation and incorporates two separate 30 tonne cranes. When installed, operators equipped with a radio remote control will be able to easily and smoothly use each of the two cranes separately in the assembly of the products or operate them in tandem mode to lift and place each completed CHP system onto the transport vehicle, as required. w | www.streetcrane.co.uk RENOVOTEC, a fast growing UK rugged hardware, software and services provider says it is addressing anticipated 2019 and 2020 demand trends with a rolling 25% discount on rental rates for its industry-leading rugged mobile hardware. “Going forward our scheme will give supply chain users the flexibility to scale their warehousing and logistics flexibly and economically, in line with spikes in demand” says Renovotec managing director Richard Gilliard. Rugged hardware covered by Renovotec’s rental discount includes leading mobile products such as the Zebra MC3300 Android and super-rugged MC9300, and the long asset life cycle, 28-hour battery life Honeywell Dolphin CK65. Renovotec’s 25% rugged hardware rentals discount is valid from now until end Q1 2020 for all sizes of order and includes maintenance and support. w: www.renovotec.com Working for a haulage company specialising in waste disposal, HART DOOR SYSTEMS has announced it has completed the installation of two Speedor Storms at a Midlands facility. The company says the two fast-action Speedors were installed to minimise the escape of dust and smells as well as keeping out birds and rodents. “The fast action allows for a quick arrival and tipping of waste within a closed harsh environment so reducing the chance of smells leaving the building,” said a Hart spokesman. “Both Storms were supplied with heated motor hoods and IP66 electrical control panels to combat moisture and the largest door was 8m high and 6m wide. It is our reputation for our capability of delivering reliable, very large, high-speed automatic doors for the waste industry that leads to contracts such as this.” t | 0191 214 0404 w | www.hartdoors.com More Speedor Storms Comprehensive food logistics network and chilled and frozen food service provider Nagel-Langdon has become among the latest organisations to benefit from the support of a short-term rent-a-ramp solution, designed and delivered by loading bay specialist, THORWORLD INDUSTRIES. The loaned apparatus came into play at a temperature-controlled warehousing complex currently under construction. The temporary electrical failure of an onsite scissor lift, used by the development’s construction vehicles, created the potential to delay project timescales. Whilst the lift was fully repairable, an electronic component had to be ordered to remedy the issue. This led project manager, Wilf Dickinson, to find a temporary solution. “We contacted Thorworld Industries,” Wilf explains, “who took accurate weights of the appliances being used and considered the suitability of the building’s proposed access points. Using this information, a ‘rent-a-ramp’ solution was assigned to our project.” w | www.thorworld.co.uk Rent-a-ramp solution Rugged hardware rentals campaign New heavyweight lifting equipment DEMAG CRANES & COMPONENTS reports it has added overhung and extending configurations to its KBK Aluline light crane system and says such solutions are designed for applications where there is a requirement to move loads beyond the crane runway span dimension. They can enable operators to perform lifting and positioning tasks between pillars and columns or deposit loads in aisles and free areas between assembly zones and lines. Depending on the load capacity, design and profile section size, the range can be extended by up to 3,100 mm. Crane extensions to either side of the track runway span dimension may also be specified. Demag says compared with its conventional KBK crane kit, this configuration has a lower headroom dimension, allowing users to benefit from 120 to 220 mm more hook path. t | 01295 676100 e | bnb-help@demagcranes.com w | www.demagcranes.co.uk Majority stake acquired Extending cranes 44 | Plant & Works Engineering www.pwemag.co.uk July/August 2019 Handling, Storage, & Logistics
