Among the many performance and monitoring tests required to ensure dependable and durable engine performance across a wide range of power applications is the need to measure relative shaft vibration in dynamometers. This is where condition monitoring specialist SENSONICS says it excels with a range of proximity probes which make an essential contribution to overall engine performance. The company says a recent example is a major manufacturer of large industrial diesel engines used for a wide range of industrial applications including fruit picking machines, mining trucks, commercial and recreational marine craft. A cutting- edge technical centre is a global focal point for engine development and low-emissions technology for its engines and includes a wide range of testing services for customers. The technical centre is co-located with the main engine manufacturing plant and in close proximity to test cells which are dedicated to engine research & development work for mining, rail, oil & gas, marine and power generation industrial applications. The company purchased two dynamometers and also Sensonics eddy current proximity probes for measuring relative shaft vibration. A senior technician commented, “We were considering purchasing more sensors and as a result of the performance of the Sensonics eddy current probes we decided to take a closer at what they could offer”. He confirmed, “Basically, we needed a solution for measuring relative shaft vibration in our dynamometers and we really appreciated the repeatability and reliability of the Sensonic sensors. They have done a great job in reporting driveline failures as well as alignment issues, before they became catastrophic failures”. As a result of the performance of the Sensonics eddy current proximity probes the company decided to install them on the other dynamometers in their technical centre for condition and vibration monitoring applications. t | 01442 876833 e | sales@sensonics.co.uk w | www.sensonics.co.uk Proximity probes prove ideal solution BRAMMER BUCK & HICKMAN, a leading UK distributor of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services, and part of the Rubix Group, a leading multi-specialist provider of industrial supplies and services, has just launched its new and completely updated website and web shop, now fully powered by Rubix. The first big change will be the consolidation of two separate websites and web shops and the second will see the new web shop fully powered by and branded to the Group’s Rubix brand. This new and improved online store will provide customers with access to the Rubix network of 8,000 makers and doers and it means a broad and deep product range with over 2 million stocked products from over 15,000 brands across the four key product areas. w | www.bbh-rubix.com Plant reliability specialist AVT RELIABILITY has announced it will demonstrate its ground-breaking intelligent condition based maintenance (CBM) expertise at an event for the maintenance engineering community in October. Maintec, which brings together experts from across the maintenance, reliability and asset management industry, will provide a showcase for the Machine Sentry suite of products and will be held on October 30th and 31st at the NEC Birmingham. The company says Machine Sentry constitutes a significant advance in wireless condition monitoring. It offers multiple web connectivity options and can collate a diverse range of data on one platform, consolidating condition monitoring data, asset management, failure detection and troubleshooting into one seamless maintenance system. More information will be available at the AVT stand, where attendees will be able to test their driving prowess on a Formula 1 racing car simulator. w | www.avtreliability.com / www.machinesentry.com Showcasing digital innovation Flexible conduit system manufacturer, FLEXICON has announced it has extended its proven range of FPA fast-fit flexible conduit fittings to include the new FPA80 for larger cable installations. The company says the FPA80 is one-piece, fast-fit nylon (PA66) fitting compatible with non-metallic flexible conduit systems. Flexicon FPA fittings were already available for conduit systems of up to 67 mm nominal size and now the introduction of the FPA80 increases the range further to a market-leading 80 mm. The conduit is installed by simply pushing it in to place and twisting to secure, helping to save time on the job when connecting and terminating. With faster and simpler fitting, the FPA80 is ideal for larger diameter conduits or where several larger cables need to be routed through the same conduit. e | flexiconsales@atkore.com w | www.flexicon.uk.com Flexible conduit fitting 18 | Plant & Works Engineering www.pwemag.co.uk October 2019 Maintenance Matters BRAMMER BUCK & HICKMAN, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of industrial maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services, has announced it has been awarded a substantial new contract with Trac Precision Machining, for the supply of tools and consumables, and other associated products.
