Now available from MARTINDALE ELECTRIC – a trusted brand in electrical safety – are the latest PDS and PDSX Series of proving units. Smaller, lighter and with new options for calibration checking test equipment, Martindale’s next generation PDSX proving units, can enable contractors and maintenance teams to safely and simply prove the operation of voltage indicators, two pole testers and test lamps plus common 18th Edition tester functions. The company says the PDSX Series includes an additional CALCHECK feature for verifying the calibration consistency of multifunction installation testers providing confidence in the performance of all essential test equipment before and after measurement. CALCHECK can make it easy to verify the insulation and low resistance ranges on 18th testers on-site, making it ideal for identifying potential calibration issues with test equipment prior. t | 01923 441717 w: http://martindale-electric.co.uk/ 3M, a science-based technology company, has announced it has launched the innovative Peltor Electronic Earplug, which reduces harmful levels of noise, but maintains a good level of situational awareness for wearers. 3M says its Peltor Electronic Earplug enables ambient sounds to be heard by its wearer, while providing protection against louder sounds that could cause damage to their hearing and this improves the ability of the wearer to hear warning signals, approaching vehicles and crucial sounds emitted by machines and processes as well as communicating with nearby colleagues, thus reducing the need to remove the ear protection. According to the Health and Safety Executive, 23,000 workers suffered work-related hearing problems between 2015 and 2018. Furthermore, insurance claims for work-place noise induced hearing loss in the UK has increased 189% over a three year period. w | 3M.co.uk/safety/EEP-100 Smart electronic earplugs Proving units verify safety By Paresh Kansara, RITTAL’S product manager for Industrial & Outdoor Enclosures A report from the Health and Safety Executive in 2018 estimated that 6.6 million working days were lost in the UK in 2017/18 due to work related musculoskeletal disorders. This accounts for nearly a quarter (24%) of all working days lost due to work related ill-health in the UK, with an average of 14 days lost in each case. Manual handling, awkward or tiring positions and repetitive action are estimated to be the main causes of work related musculoskeletal disorders. Interestingly, 82% of these cases affected the back, hand, wrist, arm, shoulder or neck. In terms of occupation, skilled trades’ occupations, process plant and machine operatives had significantly higher rates than other occupations. RRC says the NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation course is designed to enable learners to be able to carry out solo accident investigations, produce risk control plans and contribute to team accident/incident investigations for large-scale investigations. This course aims to challenge learners to not only ask how an incident occurs, but why - shaping a more resilient health and safety culture with reduced incidents as a consequence. RRC launched this course in June 2019. t | 020 8944 3100 e | info@rrc.co.uk w | www.rrc.co.uk Introduction to Incident Investigation course SOLID GEAR says combining maximum comfort and protection with a robust and durable design, the Onyx is available as a shoe or a boot and is ideal for different types of on-site work.
