The company’s fabrication department has been working round the clock to build and despatch medical gas dryers for a number of new NHS Nightingale and existing hospitals, supplying equipment against stringent deadlines. As key workers in the crisis, the service department is remaining open to support the NHS and customers in essential industries such as medical, healthcare and food manufacturing. Hi-line Industries, founded in 2000, says it has established an enviable reputation in energy-efficient air/gas purification equipment. The ISO9001-certified company, which is a member of the British Compressed Air Society, is based in Burton- upon-Trent and supports the ‘Made in Britain’ campaign. Solutions from Hi-line, including critical medical gas equipment, are designed and built to the highest quality standards, and backed by a five-year warranty. These factors proved pivotal in the company’s selection to help combat the current pandemic. For instance, at the new 500-bed Birmingham Nightingale Hospital, Hi-line has supplied critical nitrogen generators and medical gas dryers. The company’s medical gas dryers are built as duplex units, so that in the extremely unlikely case of failure, a second dryer comes on stream. Such failsafe operation is paramount in medical industry applications, where any issues can potentially be a matter of life and death. t | 01283 533377 e | enquiries@hilineindustries.com w | www.hilineindustries.com Responding to the need for technologies to slow the spread of Covid-19, SICK has developed PeopleCounter and DistanceGuard SensorApps which help to ensure that people keep to the recommended distance apart. The SICK PeopleCounter is a SensorApp based on a machine learning algorithm running on SICK’s MRS1000 3D LiDAR sensor. One or more sensors can be set up to count people at entry and exit points, or allow users to control the number of people occupying a pre-defined area in real time. The PeopleCounter works by using a specially- developed on-board algorithm to evaluate the point- cloud data generated by the MRS1000. Because the SensorApp can use data from the MRS1000’s four 275° scanning layers to determine direction of movement, the number of people in a monitored area can be updated in real time. t | 01727 831121 e | andrea.hornby@sick.co.uk. w | : www.sick.co.uk Helping people to keep their distance Working to support the country’s essential services in this unprecedented time, loading bay solution specialist THORWORLD INDUSTRIES says it has devised safe practice methods to continue operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing the company to both assist and champion the nation’s collective combative efforts.By adopting a ‘complete compliance’ operational approach regarding social distancing and safe working systems at its Derbyshire factory, the manufacturer has been able to continue supplying emergency loading apparatus to hospital environments where COVID-19 patients are being treated. Although factory operations may have been functioning at a reduced capacity, the Thorworld team has successfully fulfilled key and essential loading equipment orders, including apparatus required within extremely short lead times. Equipment, including standard ground level container ramps, has been distributed - ideal for allowing access into standard shipping containers via forklift trucks. e | info@thorworld.co.uk Supplying solutions, supporting the frontline 2Excel Logistics, a customer-orientated haulage and warehousing operation, has safely achieved completion on a THORWORLD INDUSTRIES modular loading dock installation in challenging times, with all teams involved working compliantly to meet social distancing guidelines. Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the firm had won a major 10-year food supply contract, which necessitated the purchase of a higher specification operation close to its existing fulfilment centre. Having found the perfect site 2Excel was faced with the challenge that the warehouse had no loading docks, only level access doors. Justin Wilkie, MD began researching appropriate modular dock systems and installation solutions. He found loading specialist Thorworld Industries online and was impressed with the options the manufacturer could supply. “Thorworld’s modular dock system design was visually stunning,” Justin remarks, “and looked set to deliver in terms of improved efficiencies surrounding unloading loose containers.” Visit www.pwemag.co.uk to read the full release w | www.thorworld.co.uk Safe installation 36 | Plant & Works Engineering www.pwemag.co.uk July/August 2020 Health & Safety
