Plant & Works Engineering April 2022

Robotic handling solutions on show Alongside its wide portfolio of lifting and handling equipment for sale, HOIST & WINCH says it is currently promoting its extensive know-how and experience in the hire market. The company says it is an expert in turnkey hire projects involving air- and electric-powered hoists, overseeing installation, commissioning, testing and certification tasks as part of a complete service package that provides genuine market differentiation. Through its turnkey offer, Hoist & Winch can expertly advise customers on the most suitable equipment for their lifting requirements, making precise arrangements to ensure safe and reliable operation. This advice is particularly important for air hoists, where the selection of a portable diesel compressor or the checking of plant air supply is necessary. Here, requirements will include specifying the optimal operating pressure, air volume, and hose length and bore size, as well as preparing and lubricating the air supply. Hoist & Winch completed a notable turnkey hire project over the recent Christmas period. A customer within the building materials industry hired a special 12t swl (safe working load), twin air-powered, trolley-based air hoist for lifting and replacing a large gear weighting 9t. This type of hoist was necessary to spread the 9t load over a greater distance of the monorail beam bottom flange than a standard hoist trolley arrangement would allow. From initial consultation and equipment specification - through installation, commissioning and testing - to issuing the LOLER report, delivering handover training and providing maintenance support for the eight-week hire period, Hoist & Winch acted as the technical partner at every stage of the project. The company says, this customer, like all of its customers, found that the turnkey hire service from Hoist & Winch provided assurance of a high-performance, safety-certified solution delivered on-time and on-budget. t | 08450 171126 e | sales@hoistandwinch.co.uk w | www.hoistandwinch.co.uk RANDEX, a leading vertical storage lift company, has announced it is launching a new version of its ‘Compact’ system, built using its industry-benchmark automated vertical storage technology. New features of this latest system include a modern, updated HMI* touchscreen that is highly intuitive and user friendly according to early feedback from Randex users. The touchscreen offers varying levels of user access, and can be seamlessly integrated into company operations, early users report. In response to market demand Randex has also introduced a new four-metre-wide, modular tray option: this can be used to increase storage more flexibly, say Randex who expect it to be popular with manufacturing and logistics companies. (*Human-machine interface) The new system will be launched publicly on the Randex stand at the March 2022 ‘IntraLogisteX’ and April 2022 ‘MACH’ shows. w | www.randex.com Compact vertical storage system Highly modern industrial trucks, such as the electric high-lift truck ERD 220i from Jungheinrich, are required to keep the time and material expenditure as well as the environmental impact as low as possible when loading and unloading goods. For this specific high-lift truck, the German hydraulics specialist WEBER-HYDRAULIK developed a compact undercarriage stabilisation cylinder to improve stabilisation. WEBER-HYDRAULIK says it collaborates with its customers to design and manufacture hydraulic components and systems that meet the latest technical standards and contribute to a safer working environment. For Jungheinrich, the hydraulic solutions specialist manufactures tilt cylinders, steering units, hydraulic manifolds and various steering cylinders for different industrial trucks series. The special component designed for stabilising and damping the ERD 220i electric high-lift truck is the most recent example for a joint development project between WEBER-HYDRAULIK and Jungheinrich. t | +49 7135 71-10657 e | Sebastian.gaertner@weber-hydraulik.com w | https://www.weber-hydraulik.com/en/weber-hydraulik-cylinder-for-better-stability-and-safety Better stability and safety ABB has announced it will showcase its latest advanced automated handling and robotics solutions at MACH 2022 (NEC Birmingham, 4-8 April), including a high payload collaborative robot, machine tending systems to suit every production need and a magnetic levitation-based conveyance system. Stand 18-310 will feature an example of one of ABB’s latest robotic machine tending solutions. The ABB FlexLoader M for AGV, is a fully automated feeder for automated guided vehicles. Handling all types of workpieces, it can pick straight from the pallet brought to it by the AGV. ABB’s complete range of FlexLoader M automated machine tending solutions will be shown on the stand in a series of videos and displays, with solutions designed to suit every need, from simple applications to advanced tasks. w | https://new.abb.com/products/robotics/ Know-how and experience in the hire market The hire industry’s showpiece event of the year, the Hire Association Europe Event Hire Association (HAE EHA) annual Hire Awards of Excellence, are due to take place on Saturday 7th May at Grosvenor House, London. The awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of hire and supply companies across the UK’s plant, tool, equipment and event hire industries, and give the opportunity for recognition to individuals who have consistently stood out from the crowd by achieving some of the highest standards in the industry. After the last two years’ awards were forced to be held virtually, excitement is mounting for this year’s event, which will be hosted by comedian Jo Caufield.
