OCTOBER 2019 AFTERMARKET 7 Pagid/ECP braking promotion plus MOT season support The IGA has teamed up with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) to highlight the dangers of counterfeit and consumer supplied car parts, as seen in the IPO’s Crime and Enforcement Report 2018 – 2019. The IGA’s section of the report explains how proving a part’s authenticity can be difficult if it is not bought directly from a reliable source and the risks that are posed by consumers asking a garage to fit a part of unknown origin. The report also highlights the IGA and IPO’s counterfeit car parts campaign that provides advice to consumers on how to identify fake vehicle parts, and how to report counterfeit goods. Frank Harvey, IGA Head of Member Services commented: “We are pleased to see this issue being highlighted by the IPO, as there are huge liability and safety implications surrounding counterfeit and consumer supplied parts. He added: “We are continuing to work with the IPO to raise awareness of the dangers to both garages and consumers, and we maintain that garages should always supply and fit parts themselves to guarantee provenance and provide the appropriate warranties for the work they undertake.” To read the IPO’s Crime Enforcement Report 2018 – 20119 go to: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/syst em/uploads/attachment_data/file/830245/IP_Crime_Report_201 9.PDF Pagid and Euro Car Parts are looking to rewards garages with their biggest ever braking promotion, while also helping them through what is looking to be one of the biggest ever MOT seasons of recent years via increased training support. Until the end of October they are offering garages the opportunity to win free braking products and consumables for one month and the chance to win a Palmer Sport track day. According to the DVSA, some 31 million MOT tests were carried out in 2018 and following the highest ever number of new car registrations in 2016 where 2.7 new cars were registered, the number of MOTs being carried out in 2019 is expected to hit an all-time high. Through Euro Car Parts’ Auto Education Academy, almost 400 mechanics have completed the Pagid Professional Academy training course over the last three years. The IMI (QAP) Quality Assured Programme, available at 30 locations across the UK, covers brake pads, discs, shoes and drums, hydraulic operating systems, servo operation, brake fluid and anti-lock systems. Phil Woodcock, Pagid Key Account Manager for UK and Eire, said: “Braking is a significant part of any garage or workshop’s business yet braking technologies and component tolerances have changed dramatically over the years, so it’s important that technicians and mechanics stay on top of the latest developments coming into the market.” Colin Cottrell, Central Operations Director at Euro Car Parts, added: “Pagid and Euro Car Parts are committed to delivering the best-quality product, supported by first-class training and unrivalled technical support in order to help our customers deliver the highest standards of brake fitment and servicing to their customers.” IGA counterfeit parts campaign highlighted in report
