NEWS 6 AFTERMARKET JUNE 2022 www.aftermarketonline.net Process key to recruitment success? Businesses experiencing staff shortages should take a hard look at their recruitment processes, the Glen Callum Associates (GCA) Automotive Aftermarket Recruitment Survey 2022 has suggested, with 36% of those responding saying they would actively look to leave a job immediately if their joining experience was poor. 62% went on to observe that a poor experience with a company would put them off that business for life. 93% said there should be a maximum of two interviews leading to any role, with 77% adding that the whole process should take less than three weeks. In fact, 84% said they would prefer to be turned down on the spot. The survey, conducted via LinkedIn, attracted over 23,000 views and also found that 70% of those applying for jobs in the industry prefer phone interaction to email. GCA Director Glen Shepherd said: “Candidates want to be engaged, have personal contact and proceed through an efficient recruitment process.” For Aftermarket’s recruitment section, turn to page 64. The petition, ‘Scrap cost of living' 2-year MOT plans’, is running on change.org , and was set up by members of the Automotive Support (UK) Facebook group in order to rally support from the industry and beyond to fight government plans to move the MOT to an every-other-year basis. The proposal was subject to almost blanket motor sector condemnation. One of the members of the group is Stephen Browne from Meadowfield Auto Centre, a Top Garage finalist in 2021, who said: “Members of the group decided to set up the petition to show our stance on the proposed changes, as well as to show our solidarity as an industry.” To add your name to the petition, go to: www.change.org/p/scrap-cost-of-living- 2-year-mot-plans For more on the sector’s response to the government’s biennial MOT proposals, turn to Big Issue on pages 8-11.
