Aftermarket June 2022

JUNE 2022 AFTERMARKET 63 www.aftermarketonline.net TRAINING Coventry University’s partnership with Aston Martin on staff degree programmes has led to seven new degree apprenticeship graduates, with 11 more on the way. The employees were studying at Coventry University as chartered manager degree apprentices (CMDA), and have graduated with BA (Hons) Management and Leadership at Work degrees. Jamie Cooper, James Kalas, Alex Bray, Alex Doveston, Callum Chandler, and Jack Miles have also received Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accreditation and full Chartered Manager status. They became engineering apprentices at Aston Martin in 2012 before gaining full-time roles across the carmaker’s production, quality and manufacturing engineering departments. Reflecting on the group’s experiences, Jamie Cooper said: “The chartered management degree apprenticeship has been a fantastic opportunity for us to step away from work one day a week and apply ourselves to become better leaders within our company. We have found the degree incredibly useful and are all very excited to see where it takes us on our career paths. It came with its challenges; however, the course leaders were perfect and dealt with a group of stressed yet talented lads incredibly.” Two more cohorts of Aston Martin apprentices are currently working their way through Coventry University Kelly Milburn, Leadership Coach and Tutor with Coventry University Group, said: "It has been a pleasure working with all of the apprentices, and I am proud of what they have all achieved given the challenging circumstances they have experienced personally and professionally. It is testament to their hard work and determination and a clear focus on the end in mind. I look forward to seeing them flourish in their chosen careers." Karen Botting, Senior Manager, Learning & Development, Aston Martin, added: “We are delighted to congratulate our colleagues on successfully completing their chartered management degree apprenticeship and gaining full CMI accreditation. Their new leadership capabilities to manage people, projects, operations and services will be of great benefit to our business.” For more information, visit: www.coventry.ac.uk/apprenticeships/ Aston Martin/University team-up yields degree graduates The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills Course Spotlight – Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Repair Level 3 The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills offers a suite of training courses to ensure technicians can confidently and safely work on hybrid and electric cars.
