Luke Morris (pipefitter) and Hugo Abrol (mechanical fitter) have joined IMH’s four-year apprenticeship programme. Headquartered in Middlesbrough, UK IMH is a global player in hydraulic engineering, with experience of working across more than 50 countries. It delivers major hydraulic engineering projects and offers services across design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, maintenance and repairs, as well as component supplies and training. Founded by Paul Griffiths MBE, IMH has grown from a home-based business in 1983 to a leading global player in hydraulic engineering. The company is nurturing hydraulic engineering talent on Teesside through its investment in a long-running apprenticeship programme and commitment to skills development among young people. Through IMH’s four-year apprenticeship programme, Luke and Hugo will gain practical skills in pipefitting, fabrication, welding and hydraulic engineering as well as working towards a recognised NVQ Level 3. IMH invests in future talent Deloitte has further boosted its Aberdeen-based practice with the announcement that Sarah McGavin has rejoined the firm as an audit director. Sarah returns to Deloitte after a four-year spell in industry with MOL Group, an international integrated oil and gas company, where she was Accounting and Reporting Manager, working across the business. The announcement is the latest in a series of senior hires and promotions within Deloitte’s team in Scotland.  In June, Deloitte announced Tim Corfield’s appointment to Partner in Glasgow, the fourth partner promotion in Scotland over the last 12 months, along with three new Director promotions. Sarah was a Senior Audit Manager with Deloitte during an extensive previous career with the firm. Having joined the firm initially as a trainee, she developed a broad range of expertise and experience. Sarah said: “Re-joining the team at Deloitte is an enormously exciting opportunity. My recent position with MOL Group has given me a deeper understanding and different perspective on the many changes affecting audit and assurance as well as the challenges organisations are increasingly facing.  Our Aberdeen-based practice is well established and highly regarded and I hope to further strengthen the team by offering new insights and experience gained from my time both in consultancy and industry.” A leading figure in the UK’s oil and gas industry was recognised by Robert Gordon University (RGU) with an honorary degree on Friday, July 12. Ray Riddoch, UK managing director and senior vice-president (Europe and Africa) at CNOOC International, and an alumnus of Robert Gordon Institute of Technology (RGIT) and RGU, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Technology (DTech). Ray has more than 35 years’ of experience in the oil and gas industry and this was recognised in 2018 when he was awarded an OBE for his services to the sector and appointed a Burgess of the Guild of the City and Royal Burgh of Aberdeen. He is currently co-chairman of trade body Oil and Gas UK, a director of the Oil and Gas Technology Centre as well as the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, while being a member of the Maximising Economic Recovery steering committee at the Oil and Gas Authority. He is also a past director of the Scottish Chamber of Commerce, and a past member of the Scottish Government’s Energy Taskforce. Additionally, in 2017 he was appointed as a Fellow of the Energy Institute and the HRH Prince of Wales’ Ambassador in Scotland for business in the community.
