50 OFFSHORE ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT offshoreequipment.co.uk September 2019 Equipment News  Line insulation monitoring device Bender UK will be exhibiting at SPE Offshore Europe 2019 on Stand 3J05. It will showcase its total capabilities for the oil, gas and subsea industry - oil, gas and subsea operators demand high production outputs and safe, functioning platforms to maximise productivity.  State-of-the art LIM performance The isoHR685 LIM (Line Insulation Monitor) is designed specifically for subsea cable monitoring. It continuously monitors umbilical cables up to 10GΩ, to provide advanced warning of cable degradation and failure. It delivers a huge performance improvement compared to previous variants and can synchronise up to 100 units without cross disturbance. Where long parallel cables supplied with AC or DC systems can cause interference through the coupling capacitance, the enhanced isoHR685 utilises the synchronised pulse principle which is unaffected by coupling capacitance. Monitoring off-line systems Bender equipment has the capability to monitor systems while offline. The ground fault location device EDS440 automatically locates earth faults in ungrounded AC and DC systems while remaining online, without the need to disconnect equipment. It monitors insulation resistance in IT systems which often sit idle, such as emergency shutdown systems, fire extinguisher pumps, and standby generators. Effective early warning of insulation degradation in this equipment supports preventive maintenance regimes. https://www.bender-uk.com/solutions/oil-gas When Aberdeen Marine was awarded the contract to protect six piles on the EriskayCauseway Bridge in the Western Isles it suggested the use of the Winn & Coales (Denso) SeaShield 2000FD™ System as an alternative to the original specified system. It submitted details of the technical merits of the SeaShield 2000FD™ system and the benefits in using this tried and tested system to the Western Isles Council, who agreed to the change in the specification. Despite the challenges of the remote location and inclement weather conditions, Aberdeen Marine completed the application during the winter months. Seashield 2000FD™ is a heavy duty robust system which provides protection against corrosion on Marine piles. It consists of Denso S105 Paste™, Denso Marine Piling Tape™ and a HDPE Jacket which is applied by pneumatic tensioning equipment and secures with stainless steel bolts. www.denso.net Marine protection Isambard Kingdom Brunels Swing Bridge was constructed of riveted wrought iron plates in 1849 to provide a crossing over the entrance lock in Bristol Docks but the Grade 2 Listed structure has rusted seriously. In the Bridge’s one hundred and seventieth year the volunteers of the Avon Industrial Buildings Trust have turned to Winn & Coales (Denso) for a well tried protective system. Denso paste has been applied to the underside of the ancient bridge’s 4m dia forged iron ring to seal against water entering the deep rust-pits. Then the 3mm thick soft aluminium packers were wrapped with Denso Tape, bedded on to the new 20mm thick steel ring. This was then jacked up to bed on the underside of the old heavily-corroded ring to provide a new track for the bridge to run on. www.denso.net Controlling bridge corrosion
