Autotech Recruit launches free virtual training platform Autotech Recruit has launched its own training platform on Our Virtual Academy, allowing its network of over 450 temporary vehicle technicians and MOT testers to access free training during lockdown. The platform provides access to 180 online training chapters, tutorials and final tests. The provision incorporates courses covering hybrids and EVs. Autotech Recruit contractors will also gain access to content covering emissions, diesel diagnostics and air conditioning servicing. The platform also features a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) which will assist contractors in identifying their individual training needs. The platform was set up following a survey of the contractors on the company’s books. Simon King, Managing Director of Autotech Recruit commented: “While supporting the industry as a whole with training provisions, we have used this lockdown period to speak to our contractors and understand what they are looking for to take their careers to the next level. “With training factoring highly amongst them, we have brought forward plans to create a training platform and worked with Our Virtual Academy to launch our own online provision which is immediately available to our contractors.” Simon added: “The industry was already suffering with a shortage of skills, so as many garages remain closed, it is essential that our contractors maintain and improve their skillset to ensure they are ready to fill the inevitable labour shortages once the automotive aftermarket re-opens.” Melett has launched series of educational technical videos to illustrate common turbocharger failures, and to provide advice on how to prevent future issues. The first video of the series gives advice on how to disassemble a turbocharger CHRA/ cartridge/core assembly piece by piece, ready for inspection in order to identify why a turbocharger may have failed. Another in the series explores the main causes of oil contamination, while showing the key warning signs, and how to prevent it leading to turbocharger failure. The latest addition looks at what causes insufficient lubrication, and how to detect it and avoid potential turbocharger damage. Melett Head of Sales Darren Johnson said: “These videos address the main issues that customers experience on a daily basis and provide helpful hints and tips on how to prevent any potential failures. They communicate practical advice in a visual format that can be easily accessed and understood.” Additional videos will be launched throughout the series covering other common failures and will be available to view via Melett’s website at www.melett.com/video/ and via its YouTube channel.
